Mechanic - Aircraft (Part-Time Variable Hour)


Position Category: Staff - Part-Time (Variable Hour)

Summary:
Utah Valley University is seeking part time Aircraft Mechanic. In this role you will monitor and track aircraft inspections, tests, repairs, maintenance, and other services. Performs various scheduled maintenance inspections (i.e. 50HR, 100HR, 1000HR, and 2,000HR) in addition to installing new/repaired components and equipment as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
Graduation from high school or GED equivalent and completion of two years of education from an accredited institution from a recognized trade school OR combination of education and two years apprenticeship experience related to the Summary of Duties.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of instructional strategies/techniques.
  • Knowledge of basic computer skills to allow for the ability to use university operated AIMS maintenance tracking software.
  • Skills in verbal and written communication in a maintenance/learning environment.
  • Ability to handle hazardous materials, including 100LL, Jet A, Hydraulic Fluid, and other Solvents and Paints.
  • Ability to lift or pull objects weighing as much as 70 pounds.
  • Ability to work in awkward positions and occasionally on scaffolds or ladders.
  • Ability to maintain safety standards and work in stressful situations.
  • Ability to work outdoors and sometimes in unpleasant/inclement weather.
  • Ability to verify compliance with FAA regulation, airworthiness directives, inspections, and accompanying paperwork and records.
  • Ability to work in a team environment with an assigned Maintenance Helper or other A&P employees.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces when inspecting and repairing aircraft.
  • Ability to repair and maintain Lycoming, Austro AE300, and Continental engines.
  • Ability to repair and maintain DA20, DA40, and DA42 aircraft.


Preferred Qualifications:


Physical Requirements:
  • Extensive physical effort. Requires stair climbing; heavy lifting, handling, pushing or moving objects up to 50 lbs (or greater with the use of mechanical assistance). Constant standing/walking.
  • Work involves almost constant exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, toxic chemicals, biohazardous materials, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, and/or loud noises.
  • Work environment involves exposure to potentially dangerous materials and situations that require following extensive safety precautions and may include the use of protective equipment.


Benefits Summary:
You may be eligible for a 3 credit hour or 1 class tuition waiver after 6 consecutive months of employment and a minimum of 475 hours worked. Dependents do not qualify for a waiver.

FLSA: Non-Exempt

Pay Range: $13.01 $16.26
