Summary:
Utah Valley University (UVU) invites applications for a tenure-track faculty member to apply for the Assitant Professor Diesel in the Transportation Technologies Department. Selected candidate will need to plan, prepare, and follow an approved course of study that includes measurable objectives for each course taught. The selected candidate will need to prepare instructional materials (mock-ups, visual aids, and instruction sheets) as necessary, instruct, manage, and supervise individual and groups in classrooms and laboratories by the following methods: demonstration, discussion, visual aids, conferences, field trips, etc. This position evaluates instruction and learning by means of written, oral, practical, and performance tests and maintains a student-oriented approach to education. Maintains and submits accurate and current reports and records involving student accountability, attendance, performance, and follow-up. Assists counselors, department chairperson, other faculty members, and department staff in maintaining an effective program. Requisitions, receives, and checks books, supplies, and equipment necessary for coursework. Serves on committees and attends faculty and other meetings as assigned. Improves professionally and maintains currency in the courses taught by reading and utilizing materials found in technical and professional publications; surveying and researching industrial and business establishments; obtaining and maintaining certification as required; participating in professional and specialty courses; and keeping abreast of new development trends, and techniques through participation in workshop seminars, actual work experience, and exchange programs with business and industry to maintain skills, state of the art, and knowledge. Considerable to extensive mental concentration required to perform highly complex and responsible duties in the over-all management of instruction. Develops and revise curriculum as needed. Course emphasis will be on Chassis/Suspension/Steering/Brakes, and Power Train Systems.

Required Qualifications:
Bachelors Degree in related discipline. Eight years professional experience in area of teaching specialty. 30 Hours of discipline specific training/certifications/workshops.
ASE Certified in Medium/Heavy Duty Truck.
Computer skills using various diesel software.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of Diesel systems.
  • Knowledge of ASE approved repair techniques.
  • Working knowledge is also required for Engines, Electrical Systems, Hydraulics, Refrigeration/AC, and Preventive Maintenance.
  • Ability to work under general direction and supervise students in classroom and other areas as appropriate.
  • Ability to manage a large group of students, keep them on task, and critique performance levels.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in a wide variety of settings.


Preferred Qualifications:


Physical Requirements:
Extensive contact with students, faculty, and staff, professional and community organizations, and the community at large. Moderate to high physical effort. Surroundings are typical of the average teaching/office and diesel service shop setting.
