Position Summary and Qualifications

Mission or Goal of Unit
The division of Pediatric Hematology, Oncology, and Transplantation at the Children's Hospital of Richmond at VCU (CHoR) is undergoing a major expansion in clinical and research programs. The pediatric palliative medicine program, which is housed within this division, is experiencing similar growth.

We are seeking a pediatrician who is either board-eligible or board-certified in hospice and palliative medicine. Board certification and practice in other pediatric subspecialties (in addition to hospice and palliative medicine) is also welcome. Clinical duties will include attending on the in-patient palliative care consult service as well as caring for outpatient and home-based palliative care and hospice patients. This individual will be an active member of the pediatric palliative interprofessional team consisting of physician, nurse practitioner, pastoral care, social work, and child life members. Must demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU .

Chief purpose of this position in support of above mission or goal
The ideal candidate will be an active participant in the expansion of our current pediatric palliative care program to the outpatient and home environments. He/she will be dedicated to furthering the tenants of palliative care within the academic environment as well as the community via education of patients, families, pediatric trainees, and future pediatric palliative care providers.

Position Responsibilities
1. TEACHING
This individual is expected to train medical students and pediatric residents/fellows in primary palliative care as well as future pediatric palliative care providers.
2. RESEARCH
Faculty member will participate in clinical, translational and/or outcomes research.
3. SERVICE
Faculty member will serve on departmental, College, and/or University committees as necessary, as well as in a professional capacity in their field.
4. CLINICAL
Clinical duties will include attending on the in-patient palliative care consult service as well as caring for outpatient and home-based palliative care and hospice patients. Clinical time commensurate with distribution of effort.
5. OTHER ( FOR INSTANCE ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES , ETC .)
Organizing various programs within the Hematology/Oncology Department.

Required Qualifications
• MD degree with current Board Certification or Board Eligibility in Hospice and Palliative Medicine
• Eligible for appointment at open rank
• Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU .
