Position Summary and Qualifications

Mission or Goal of Unit
THE MISSION OF THE DEPARTMENT OF PHARMACOTHERAPY AND OUTCOMES SCIENCE is to educate professional Pharm.D. and graduate students and to conduct research on medication use that will result in the advancement of the profession and improvements in the quality of health care. The Department provides Pharm.D. and graduate students with courses and research experiences that prepare them for their professional careers. The Department is committed to enhance diversity among its faculty, staff, and students. Finally, Department faculty have a responsibility to provide service to their profession and to the university community.

Chief purpose of this position in support of above mission or goal
Coordinate and teach in the Foundations of Pharmacy Practice Laboratory course sequence. Develop, implement and teach instructional courses related to contemporary professional pharmacy practice.

Position Responsibilities
1. Foundations is a six-semester course longitudinally integrated for students to apply the knowledge, communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills essential in contemporary professional pharmacy practice. The primary responsibilities of this position are teaching and coordinating this practice-based laboratory course in two semesters, while also developing and implementing innovative instructional exercises. Opportunities exist for additional didactic teaching and precepting in the curriculum.
2. Research Faculty member will contribute to the scholarship mission of the School of Pharmacy by publishing peer-reviewed manuscripts and presenting posters at national pharmacy conferences.
3. Service Faculty member will serve on departmental, College, and/or University committees as necessary, as well as in a professional capacity in their field, e.g., reviewer, holding office in a pharmacy professional organization, etc.
4. Clinical The faculty member will provide clinical pharmacy services at an ambulatory care practice site or a hospital site depending on this position.
5. Other (for instance administrative duties, etc.)

Required Qualifications
• Doctor of Pharmacy Degree or equivalent, PGY -1 residency training or equivalent practice experience.

• Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU .

• Excellent written and oral communication skills.

• Pharmacist licensure or eligibility for licensure in Virginia.

Preferred Qualifications
• Classroom and/or experiential teaching experience
