Assistant Professor, Athletic Training

The Department of Health and Human Performance (HHP) at Texas State University invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor in Athletic Training. The Department of HHP serves approximately 2,500 undergraduate and graduate students seeking degrees in Athletic Training, Exercise and Sport Science, Health Education, and Recreation. The Athletic Training Division includes a CAATE-accredited B.S. and a post-professional M.S. in Athletic Training program. This is a full-time, tenure-track faculty position with a nine-month academic year appointment beginning Fall 2015. The successful candidate will: 1) be responsible for delivering quality instruction in undergraduate and graduate courses in athletic training; 2) pursue a focused area of research and scholarship that culminates in peer-reviewed presentations and publications; 3) serve as an advisor for graduate research; 4) seek extramural funding; 5) have active membership in relevant professional associations/organizations; and 6) serve on committees and participate in official activities at the department, college and university levels.

Required Qualifications:

  • Earned doctorate in Athletic Training or related field prior to appointment date;
  • Current BOC certification and eligibility for athletic training licensure in Texas;
  • Demonstrable evidence of research and scholarship; and
  • Previous experience teaching at the university level.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience or participation in grant writing and obtaining external funding for athletic training/sports medicine-related research projects;
  • Research area that is congruent with existing lines of research within the Division of Athletic Training;
  • Experience with graduate education and the ability to contribute to master’s programs;
  • Experience with mentoring graduate students;
  • Ability to integrate a diverse and multicultural perspective into teaching;
  • A work history that includes at least 3 years of athletic training clinical practice
  • Prior experience as a preceptor in a CAATE-accredited athletic training program.
  • Demonstrated leadership in program, university and professional service activities and organizations; and
  • Commitment to working collaboratively with department faculty, staff, and others throughout the institution/organization.
