Research Assistant Professor



Description:

The University of Houston Law Center invites applications for a Research Assistant Professor position for an immediate start date (upon selection) through the end of August 2018. This non-tenure track (NTT) appointment is with the Law Center s Health Law & Policy Institute. The position will have an initial probationary contract period through the end of August 2018 with no presumption of renewal. However, based upon continued positive evaluations of the appointee, the position may lead to a second contract for a full academic year. The initial salary range for this position is expected to be $58,000 to $63,000 for a 12 month academic year, but the precise salary will be negotiated based on the candidate's experience and on compensation paid or offered to research professors in comparable positions at comparable law schools. As a NTT position, the appointee will accrue no time toward tenure at the University of Houston.

Supervised by the Director of the Health Law & Policy Institute (HLPI), the research faculty member will work on program development. Responsibilities include running existing programs and developing new initiatives, such as overseeing the legislative fellows program and laying the groundwork for a medical legal partnership; maintaining HLPI s portfolio of grant-funded research; networking with the Texas Legislature and other stakeholders; and managing HLPI s web and social media presence. Responsibilities also may include supervising other researchers. Research faculty have no regular teaching obligations at the Law Center but may be given an opportunity to teach special courses on an adjunct basis. Reappointment is contingent on performance and the continued availability of external funding. HLPI is recognized as one of the leading health law programs in the United States. The program offers over twenty health law courses per year to J.D. and LL.M. students. Students may also participate in interdisciplinary studies with local universities leading to the M.P.H., M.D., or Ph.D. (Medical Humanities). Core courses are taught by several tenure track faculty members, occasional visiting faculty members, and adjunct faculty drawn from one of the most sophisticated health law bars in the United States. The health law program engages in a significant program of externally sponsored research. Houston offers many opportunities for the successful candidate to engage in interdisciplinary projects. Qualifications :

Applicants must have a J.D. degree , educational or practical experience with health law  and policy as well as experience with statistics and data management.  An additional advanced degree, such as an  M.P.H. or Ph.D., in a health policy-related field or economics and previous e xperience with grant writing are preferred but not required.
