Associate Director, Law Library



Description:

The University of Houston Law Center invites applications for an Associate Director of the Law Library.

The University of Houston Law Center is seeking outstanding candidates with demonstrated excellent communication skills and strong service orientation; ability to work strategically in a complex, changing environment; proven capacity to work effectively and collegially in teams with staff at all levels as well as faculty and students; professional experience working with relevant departments and/or students and faculty in a research library setting; demonstrated awareness of faculty and graduate student needs at a research institution. The University of Houston, with one of the most diverse student bodies in the nation, seeks to recruit and retain a diverse community of scholars.

Responsibilities: Oversees, supervises, and/or coordinates the functions of the Public Services and Technical Services departments; supervises technology initiatives; assists with budgeting, hiring and supervision of library staff, strategic planning with respect to the future growth and development of the law library, and initiating and monitoring library programs and services; and supports the Library's relations with the law school, the University, library consortia, and professional organizations. This person may also have certain teaching, law school service, scholarship, and/or other administrative responsibilities.

Reports to the Director of the Law Library.

The Associate Director of the Law Library is a librarian position. Librarians hold academic rank pursuant to the University of Houston Librarians Bylaws Document. They are expected to develop a record of service, scholarship, and professional involvement. The UH Libraries support the ongoing professional development of librarians and our goal is to recruit librarians committed to continuous learning. Compensation will be based on experience.

The Law Center has 52 full-time faculty and enrolls a total of 820 students. In addition to offering a vibrant J.D. program, the Law Center offers LL.M. concentrations in health law; taxation; energy, environment, and natural resources; international law; and intellectual property and information law. The Law Center is fully accredited by the American Bar Association and is a member of the Association of American Law Schools.

Qualifications :
  • J.D. degree (or the equivalent)
  • Master s Degree from an ALA-accredited program.
  • 3-5 years of Library Experience
