Title IX Investigator

FLSA Status: Exempt

Job Summary:
The Title IX Investigator is responsible for working to ensure institutional compliance with Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 Civil Rights Act (Title IX), the Violence Against Women Act Reauthorization of 2013 (VAWA), the Campus Sexual Violence Elimination Act (Campus SaVE), and other related federal and state laws. The Title IX Investigator will investigate reports and complaints regarding sex or gender-based discrimination, sexual misconduct, harassment, stalking, or relationship violence involving students, faculty, staff or third parties.
Duties and Essential Job Functions:
Investigates thoroughly and reviews complaints of discrimination, harassment, sexual harassment, sexual violence, domestic/dating violence, and retaliation.
Gathers evidence, conducts interviews, compiles documentation, and prepares reports related to investigations.
Acts as an impartial and unbiased party in the investigation and provides detailed reports summarizing the investigation's findings.
Explains outcomes of investigation to hearing panels and others involved in the adjudication process.
Provides timely reports and updates regarding the status of the complaints received and investigations in process to the Title IX Coordinator.
Collaborates and coordinates with the Title IX Coordinator and Advocate to identify and address any systemic problems.
Engages with other university stakeholders to ensure Title IX policies are communicated to all campus community members.
Assists in the creation and revision of campus policies and procedures regarding sex and/or gender-based discrimination, sexual harassment, and sexual violence.
Assists with the development and implementation of comprehensive Title IX training programs for students, faculty and staff.
Remains abreast to any and all Title IX policies and procedures and disseminate information to appropriate campus officials.
Performs other related duties as assigned.

Position Requirements:
Required Education and Experience:
Master's degree from an accredited institution in a related field (e.g., social work, student affairs, psychology, sociology, criminal justice).
2 plus years' of demonstrated experience in investigating Title IX complaints, incidents, and/or grievance investigation and resolution.
Preferred Education and Experience:
J.D. from an accredited institution in a related field.
3 years of demonstrated experience in investigating Title IX complaints, incidents, and/or grievance investigation and resolution.
Prior work experience in an institution of higher education, preferably in student conduct or an office of discrimination and harassment, working with college students.
Preferred Licensure/Certification/Specialized Training:
Title IX related training or certification through a nationally recognized organization.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Knowledge of Title IX, Clery Act, and VAWA.
Knowledge of gender/sexual violence issues and effect of sexual assault on victims, survivor recovery.
Skill in excellent communication, both oral and in writing, and interpersonal skills.
Skill in problem solving techniques, interviewing, investigating, and conflict resolution skills.
Skill in strong organizational and analytical skills with attention to detail.
Skill in critical thinking demonstrated by the ability to analyze information, evaluate results, and facilitate resolution. Ability to communicate and write clear, concise reports.
Ability to manage multiple, on-going and complex caseloads of Title IX-related incidents and complaints that ensures the prompt, effective, and equitable conclusion of matters.
Ability to use computer applications, such as word processing, spreadsheets, and file management.
Ability to communicate effectively within a university environment.
Ability to work independently in a time-sensitive environment.
Ability to work with individuals from a variety of backgrounds, including victims of sexual assault, domestic violence, or other types of trauma.
Ability to handle complex situations, particularly those which require a high level of confidentiality.
Physical Requirements (With or Without Accommodations):
Visual acuity to read information from computer screens, forms and other printed materials and information.
Able to speak (enunciate) clearly in conversation and general communication.
Hearing ability for verbal communication/conversation/responses via telephone, telephone systems, and face-to-face interactions.
Manual dexterity for typing, writing, standing and reaching, flexibility, body movement for bending, crouching, walking, kneeling and prolonged sitting.
Lifting and moving objects and equipment up to 10 lbs.
Work Environment:
Work is indoors and sedentary and is subject to schedule changes and/or variable work hours.
There are no harmful environmental conditions present for this job.
The noise level in this work environment is usually moderate.
