Personal Trainer

Job Title: Personal Trainer Job Number: 2016-239 Department: Campus Recreation - 27370 Job Description:
Salary: $15.00/hourly

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt / Temporary

Job Summary:

The Personal Trainer is responsible for marketing themselves. Campus Recreation will advertise and promote the personal training program, but participants are free to choose their personal trainer.

Duties and Essential Job Functions:

Provides personal training for clients; operates under the standards set within their certification for prescribing exercise for individuals. This includes modifying exercises for special needs clients. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:
Required Education and Experience:

• High School Diploma, GED or equivalent.

• In lieu of Level I trainer certification, a bachelors degree in the field of Exercise Science or related discipline with personal training experience will also be accepted.

Required Licensure/Certification/Specialized Training:
  • Required certification in one or more of the following:
      • American College of Sports Medicine (ASCM)
      • National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA)
      • Aerobic and Fitness Association of America (AFAA)
      • American Council on Exercise (ACE)
      • Cooper's Institute
      • Sara's City Workout (SCW)
    • CPR Certification
    • Another certification may be accepted at the discretion of the Assistant Director.


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Knowledge of proper personal training techniques.
  • Ability to market services.


Physical Requirements (With or Without Accommodations) :
  • Visual acuity to read information from computer screens, forms and other printed materials and information.
  • Able to speak (enunciate) clearly in conversation and general communication.
  • Hearing ability for verbal communication/conversation/responses via telephone, telephone systems, and face-to-face interactions.
  • Manual dexterity for typing, writing, standing and reaching, flexibility, body movement for bending, crouching, walking, kneeling and prolonged sitting.
  • Lifting and moving objects and equipment up to 10 lbs.


Work Environment:
  • Work is indoors/outdoors and not sedentary and is subject to schedule changes and/or variable work hours.
  • There are no harmful environmental conditions present for this job.
  • The noise level in this work environment is usually moderate.
