Library Specialist

Job Description:

FLSA Status: Nonexempt

$15.09/ per hour

Requires night and weekend hours

Part-time, 30 hours per week

The Library Specialist is responsible for supporting the Library by assisting patrons in utilizing resources; works nights and weekends providing services at the Access Services desk and supervises student assistants; processes reserves by communicating with faculty, placing items on physical and online reserves using the reserves software; supports the Access Services manager by assisting with special projects, as needed

Provides information to patrons by providing customer service, giving instructions; assisting in locating library materials; answering or referring inquiries to the appropriate staff member.

Maintains library resources by processing and maintaining library materials; monitoring materials location and return; shelving resources. Maintains library databases by reconciling and correcting records; entering and revising computer data files.

Supervises student workers by training and orienting student assistants; developing work schedules, monitoring student work; monitoring student assistant salary budgets.

Maintains library databases by entering and revising computer data files, reconciling and correcting records.

Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications. Contributes to team effort, working with current staff and student assistants to accomplish routine duties and participate in special projects.
Job Requirements:

Clerical test must be taken and satisfactory scores must be made. Typing score must be 40 WPM with 98% accuracy; data entry score must be 4000 KPH with 98% accuracy; basic skills score must be 70%. Required Education and Experience :

• Night and weekend schedule during fall and spring term; work schedule will change for holidays and summers; flexibility required.

• Associate's degree or equivalent in experience.

• 1 year of basic office experience.

• Demonstrated accuracy with keyboarding skills.

• Attention to detail and ability to master complex procedures.

• Knowledge of basic customer service techniques.

• Ability to communicate clearly verbally and in writing.

• Knowledge of software navigation techniques.

Preferred Education and Experience:

• Library experience; familiarity with Microsoft Office and/or library-specific software.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

• Knowledge of basic customer service techniques.

• Knowledge of software navigation techniques.

• Knowledge of verifying techniques.

• Knowledge of keyboarding skills.

• Ability to clearly communicate verbally and in writing.

Physical Requirements (With or Without Accommodations):

• Visual acuity to read information from computer screens, forms and other printed materials and information.

• Able to speak (enunciate) clearly in conversation and general communication.

• Hearing ability for verbal communication/conversation/responses via telephone, telephone systems, and face-to-face interactions.

• Manual dexterity for typing, writing, standing and reaching, flexibility, body movement for bending, crouching, walking, kneeling and prolonged sitting.

• Lifting and moving objects and equipment up to 10 lbs.

Work Environment:

• Work is indoors and sedentary and is subject to schedule changes and/or variable work hours.

• There are no harmful environmental conditions present for this job.

• The noise level in this work environment is usually moderate.
