Texas Christian University (TCU) invites nominations and expressions of interest for the position of Dean of Undergraduate Admission. The University seeks a collaborative and visionary leader who has a proven record of managing and motivating a large team of individuals responsible for the recruitment of undergraduate students.

TCU is classified by U.S. News and World Report as a Tier 1 university and a Doctoral/Research university by the Carnegie Foundation. The Carnegie Commission lists TCU's undergraduate profile as "More Selective," its highest ranking. TCU is located in Fort Worth, Texas, the 16th largest city in the U.S. (located in a metropolitan area of more than 6 million), a city known for its vibrant economy, cultural district, and world-class arts and entertainment venues.

Attracting top students from across the U.S. and internationally, TCU is the home to approximately 8,900 undergraduates, nearly 50% of whom reside on campus. The University encompasses eight colleges and schools and will soon include a medical school operated in partnership with the University of North Texas Health Science Center, also located in Fort Worth. The current graduate/professional population of TCU will increase from 1,500 to approximately 1,800 with the inclusion of medical students. The undergraduate experience offers multiple avenues for pursuing excellence in academic research and experiential learning. The undergraduate academic and co-curricular program is closely aligned with the University's distinctive emphasis on ethical leadership and responsible citizenship in a global context.

The new Dean will continue the upward trajectory of selectivity and quality which has defined TCU over the last decade. Through the use of analytics and data analysis the Dean will lead a large and diverse recruiting team expected to attract matriculates who will enhance TCU's already strong academic reputation. Job Summary: The Dean of Undergraduate Admission is responsible for directing admission operations for the University by providing leadership in all aspects of recruiting, admitting and matriculating students to the University. The Dean of Undergraduate Admission reports directly to the Provost. The Dean's charge, as the chief undergraduate enrollment officer is responsible for the following major functions:

Duties and Essential Job Functions:

Manages and motivates a team of individuals who are responsible for the recruitment of undergraduate students. Ensures that the process of file management, admission decisions, and communications to external constituencies are both efficient and effective. Works specifically with the Provost and academic deans to achieve the expected school/college results in conjunction with institutional requirements.

Maintains regular internal communications with a variety of individuals and units to understand their needs in relation to those of the Provost and academic deans. Develops print and electronic materials, in conjunction with the TCU Marketing and Communications office, which effectively articulate the University's mission and vision in relation to the recruitment of new students. Works closely with the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid to develop and aid allocation policy consistent with the recruitment of a quality and diverse student population.

Seeks opportunities outside the University to represent TCU among a variety of external constituencies to include but not be limited to, high school counselors, prospective families and students, and vendors. Oversees the identification, recruitment and selection of student applicants and matriculates, both freshman and transfer, as well as domestic and international by developing, implementing and maintaining processes and procedures designed to facilitate matriculation efficiently and effectively. Assures efficient use of resources by developing budgets, monitoring expenditures and managing projects to implement new technology.

Establishes strategic goals by gathering pertinent business, financial, service and operations information; identifying and evaluating trends and options; choosing a course of action; defining objectives, evaluating outcomes. Establishes standards and direct practice of excellent customer service by implementing service expectations, training and monitoring outcomes; promoting working relationships with academic and student affairs departments to assess admission results. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Job Requirements:
Required Education and Experience:
  • Master's Degree
  • 8 years' experience in academic administration with an emphasis on admission and recruitment of students with increasing responsibility in the field of higher education admissions with proven leadership and budgetary experience.


Preferred Education and Experience:
  • Earned doctoral degree or equivalent from an accredited institution.


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of student recruitment.
  • Knowledge of and ability to demonstrate exceptional written and oral communication skills.
  • Knowledge of department specific software.
  • Knowledge of research, statistical analysis and reporting techniques.
  • Knowledge of project management techniques.
  • Knowledge of customer service techniques.
  • Knowledge of program development techniques.
  • Skill in recognizing the nuanced differences of recruiting both transfer and international students as part of the institution's overall enrollment goals.
  • Skill in exceptionally strong analytical skills along with an understanding and appreciation of the roles that data and technology play in the world of recruitment and selection.
  • Skill in utilization of analytics and data analysis to recruit and matriculate a student body consistent with the expectations of the institution.
  • Skill in Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to display outstanding communication skills and the ability to articulate a vision of the University to a diverse set of students and families.
  • Ability to provide a proven record collaboration with faculty, administrators, and staff across the University to advance the College's mission.
  • Ability to work specifically with the various academic deans to craft college/school needs in support of the institution's strategic global vision.
  • Ability to lead a large and diverse staff of committed professionals.
  • Ability to show commitment toward the recruitment of a diverse student population but also develop successful strategies to do so.
