Athletic Academic Services - Tutor

Position Description:
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Salary: $10.00-$14.00 per hour.

Please be advised this is a part-time, temporary position.

Job Summary: The Tutor is responsible for supporting TCU Athletics Academics by providing individual and group tutorial services to student-athletes.

Duties and Essential Job Functions:

Provides tutoring to TCU student-athletes. Offers assistance with developing study strategies. Works with the student-athlete to develop a tutoring plan that fits the student-athlete's individual needs.

Prepares and organizes tutoring sessions to ensure the student-athlete's academic development. Assesses the student-athlete progress throughout tutoring sessions. Participates in tutor training and developmental education.

Understands that rules compliance is a critical element of this position and adheres to the NCAA, Big 12 and university rules, regulations, and policies. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Position Requirements:
Required Education and Experience : Have successfully completed the course for which tutoring services are being provided or a higher level course in that subject area with a grade of A or B.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Knowledge and competence in the subject matter.
  • Skill in organization and ability to complete paperwork in a timely manner.
  • Skill in developing and maintaining positive relationships with students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Skill in communicating study skills and strategies to students.
  • Ability to explain concepts to others effectively and ability to effectively communicate study strategies to ensure academic success.
  • Ability to conduct and facilitate small group tutoring sessions.
  • Ability to maintain required documentation and tutoring notes.


Physical Requirements (With or Without Accommodations):
  • Visual acuity to read information from computer screens, forms and other printed materials and information.
  • Able to speak (enunciate) clearly in conversation and general communication.
  • Hearing ability for verbal communication/conversation/responses via telephone, telephone systems, and face-to-face interactions.
  • Manual dexterity for typing, writing, standing and reaching, flexibility, body movement for bending, crouching, walking, kneeling and prolonged sitting.
  • Lifting and moving objects and equipment up to 10 lbs.


Work Environment:
  • Work is indoors and sedentary and is subject to schedule changes and/or variable work hours.
  • There are no harmful environmental conditions present for this job.
  • The noise level in this work environment is usually moderate.
