Department Head - EAHR
The College of Education and Human Development at Texas A&M University invites applications and nominations for the position of Department Head, Educational Administration and Human Resource Development (EAHR). This department head will also hold the Huffines Endowed Chair for Education. The department mission is to prepare students to be successful leaders in a global, diverse, technological, and interdependent world. The department faculty and staff (a) create and disseminate new knowledge; (b) prepare exemplary, caring, reflective, and high quality scholars and practitioners; (c) engage in theory, research, and practice in the preparation of department graduates; and (d) work collaboratively with many stakeholders to effect change at the local, state, national, and international levels; and e) support the values of diversity, inclusion, equity, fairness, and social justice.
The department enrolls approximately 500 undergraduate and 380 graduate students, served by 28 faculty and 24 staff. It offers undergraduate, masters and doctoral programs spanning Adult Education, Technology Management, Human Resource Development, Public School Administration, Higher Education Administration, and Student Affairs Administration in Higher Education. EAHR faculty collaborate with scholars across the institution, state, and nation in active research efforts and garnering extramural funding. In AY17, faculty were involved in grant and contract activity, representing over $11 million in awards, with over $6 million directly attributed to EAHR faculty.
Qualifications. Candidates must possess an earned doctorate with a specialization in K-12 educational administration, higher education administration, adult education or human resource development; qualify for the rank of full professor; and have a distinctive and active record of teaching, scholarship, publications, and external funding. Competitive candidates should be leaders in their academic field of study; have a vision for the department ‘s future, as well as the challenges and opportunities at the national level; and be a successful advocate for students, staff, and faculty in the department. They should have administrative and budgetary management experience, experience that lends itself to facilitating effective learning and instruction (both in person and online), be committed to transparent and engaged faculty governance, be collaborative, possess good communication skills, and be able to manage and resolve conflict. They should support faculty in garnering internal and external funding. Further, we seek an individual who has a leadership style that supports the diversity of department community, creating a climate that embraces the values of inclusion so that all members are heard, valued, and respected, and in which all community members can thrive.
Responsibilities: The Head serves as the chief academic, fiscal, development, and administrative officer for the Department. The Head is responsible for fostering faculty excellence in research, teaching, and service consistent with Texas A&M University’s Vision 2020 Strategic Plan; providing effective advocacy for the department within the college, university, state, and nation; encouraging a positive, collegial climate grounded in the ideals of diversity, inclusion, equity, fairness, and social justice; promoting local, regional, state, national and international outreach; and creating a positive climate for the recruitment, development, and retention of diverse faculty, students, and staff.
