Lamar Institute of Technology President - Presidential Profile

Lamar Institute of Technology (LIT) invites applications and nominations for President of the institution. LIT is a two year institution of over 3,000 students in Beaumont, Texas, with an unduplicated enrollment including credit, non-credit, and dual-credit students exceeding 7,000. LIT delivers over fifty degree and certificate programs designed to assure career and technical educational opportunities for all students. Students of LIT have the highest median salary ten years after leaving the college of any two year institution in Texas and third across the nation (U.S. Department of Education data).

 

LIT’s President has broad responsibility for the leadership and management of LIT and its resources and guides the institution in developing its mission, goals and strategic plans. The President oversees the recruitment, retention and promotion of all faculty and staff, and reports to the Chancellor of the Texas State University System, which is composed of eight different campuses and 83,000 students. The system is the oldest in Texas and the third largest system in the state, and is governed by a nine member board appointed by the Governor.

 

LIT seeks a President who has deep respect for the institution’s mission and goals and who appreciates its important economic role in the region and state. The President will be an experienced leader with a record of success, preferably in a technical college. The President will have unquestioned integrity, a good sense of humor, a passion for student success and a record of building and maintaining an atmosphere of transparency and collegiality. The desired qualities, characteristics and experiences include: outstanding interpersonal and communication skills combined with a creative, entrepreneurial spirit, strong business acumen and an earned doctorate. Extensive budgeting and management experience in higher education and a record of achievement in infusing diversity within a college are also essential. Finally, the President will be able to develop and implement a shared vision for LIT’s future that is ambitious and achievable.
