Senior Lecturer Position in Quantitative Methods

Vanderbilt University’s Peabody College

The Quantitative Methods program in the Department of Psychology and Human Development of Vanderbilt University’s Peabody College of Education and Human Development is searching to fill a senior lecturer position to teach introductory statistics courses at both the undergraduate and graduate level.  The appointment will likely begin in August 2015, although there is potential to fill the position starting in January 2015.  The ideal candidate will have a number of qualifications: 1) an earned doctorate in quantitative psychology, educational measurement, biostatistics, or another field closely related to quantitative methods;  2) experience teaching introductory statistics, ideally to both undergraduates and graduates;  3) indication of outstanding success in the classroom, including exemplary student evaluations, letters of recommendation endorsing teaching excellence, teaching awards, the development of innovative teaching material, and/or publications related to teaching.

The Department of Psychology and Human Development includes programs in Clinical, Developmental, Cognitive Neuroscience, and Quantitative Methods (QM).  QM is a vibrant program of eight faculty who work on the cutting edge of topics in statistical/mathematical modeling.  For information about the faculty and department, see http://peabody.vanderbilt.edu/departments/psych/index.php. The successful applicant will teach outstanding students in one of the top-rated colleges of education and human development in the U.S., with relatively small class sizes, and will receive a competitive salary and excellent benefits.  This senior lecturer position will initially be filled for a three-year term appointment, with the expectation of renewal.  A typical teaching load will be three courses per semester (with the potential for multiple sections of the same course in some/most semesters).  Courses to be covered include introductory and advanced undergraduate statistics, introductory graduate statistics, introductory graduate research design and ANOVA, and introductory graduate regression and correlation.  Additional duties may include advising undergraduate students and supporting the new Master’s program in Quantitative Methods through advising, teaching, and administrative activity.

Applicants should send a brief cover letter, curriculum vitae, additional supplemental material (e.g., publications, curriculum development material, student evaluation summaries, etc.) and a teaching statement to QMSearch@vanderbilt.edu. Letters of reference will be solicited; potential references should be indicated in the cover letter, including e-mail addresses.  Material can be sent as attachments to an e-mail addressed as above, or to:
