Public Relations, Strategic Communication and Advertising, Tenure-Track Faculty

The School of Journalism seeks applicants for two tenure-track faculty positions (#143140, 143290). Both positions are available at assistant/associate professor rank for public relations, strategic communication or advertising. Start date for the positions is August 1, 2018.

Applicants should exhibit teaching excellence and an ability to mentor students. They should also demonstrate an active research or creative agenda and willingness to participate in service.

Our new colleagues will understand the intersection of public relations, strategic communication and advertising. Ideal candidates will help students prepare for a career in this interconnected world that rewards writing across multiple platforms, relationship building, strategic analysis and the use of legacy and social media tools to inform or persuade.

Responsibilities include teaching courses such as Public Relations Principles, Public Relations or Advertising and Strategic Communication Case Studies, Strategic Writing, PR Publications, Social Media Practices and Campaigns. Opportunities to teach graduate courses may be available.

Our faculty is committed to an education model that balances the development of professional skills with a broader understanding of the history, ethics and social impact of media. We have a tradition of balancing teaching, creative activity/research and service. Members of our faculty include editors and former editors of national journals, prominent former journalists, and researchers and writers with distinguished records and active research agendas. MTSU is located in Murfreesboro, TN, about 35 miles from Nashville, and offers a low cost of living and high quality of life.

Required Education
A terminal degree in Public Relations, Strategic Communication, Journalism, Advertising, or closely related field by appointment date.

Required Related Experience
Applicants must have at least two years of experience in professional media, public relations, strategic communication, advertising, journalism, or communication.

Other Desirable
Candidates who provide global and/or diverse perspectives will receive special consideration. Web and/or app design, data analytics or interactive media design are additional strength areas for applicants. University teaching experience is desirable.
