Austin Peay State University (APSU) is seeking an experienced professional to lead the university’s diversity efforts. The Chief Diversity Officer/Title IX Coordinator will report to the President and will be responsible to foster a positive, inclusive environment for students, faculty, and staff. This leader will oversee programming related to diversity in all areas of the university community, will facilitate a positive and supportive communication environment, and strive to be a credible and trusted resource for all members of the community.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
The Chief Diversity Officer/Title IX Coordinator will work closely with the University Diversity Committee and will lead University-wide efforts to develop an implementation plan to advance access, diversity, equity, and inclusion as outlined in the University’s strategic plan, Leading with Excellence. In addition, this leader will oversee the Office of Equal Opportunity, which assists the University in achieving a diverse workforce and handles harassment and discrimination investigations.
Required Minimum Qualifications
The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker and leader who will build relationships with a broad constituency of University stakeholders. In addition, candidates should have a track record of success in diversity or Title IX work.
- Graduate level preparation (MA, MS, MD, JD, PhD, or other degree) with five or more years of experience in developing and implementing diversity programs, leading diversity activities in higher education, and experience with or deep understanding of Title IX requirements.
- Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.
- Diplomatic communicator with emotional intelligence and the ability to positively represent the University with a broad group of internal and external stakeholders.
- A track record of leadership in advancing access, diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Experience choosing, scheduling, promoting and evaluating diversity programming in a complex organizational environment.
- Proactive problem solver who can recognize, anticipate and address barriers and challenges to access, diversity, equity and inclusion.
