PROVOST AND VICE PRESIDENT FOR ACADEMIC AFFAIRS
Lander University invites nominations and applications for the position of Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs.
Established in 1872, Lander is a public, comprehensive university experiencing unprecedented growth, as evidenced by an astonishing 40 percent increase in freshman enrollment over last fall. Lander is located in Greenwood, a charming city of 25,000 residents with a diversified economy in the Upstate region of South Carolina. Close by is Lake Greenwood, an 11,000-acre body of water offering many recreational opportunities. Greenwood is within easy driving distance of Atlanta, Augusta, Charlotte, Charleston, the Blue Ridge Mountains and the South Carolina coast.
Over 50 Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programs are delivered to 3,000 students through six academic divisions: the College of Arts and Humanities, the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences, the College of Business, the College of Education, the School of Nursing, and the College of Science and Mathematics.
The next Provost will work with President Richard Cosentino and an experienced and talented team of vice presidents and deans to realize the goals of the new Strategic Plan.
The Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs reports directly to the President and is responsible for advancing programs that are aligned with the University’s short- and long-term growth and strategic objectives; promoting innovative approaches to teaching and learning; supporting professional development of faculty and academic staff; enhancing the culture of collaboration between faculty and administration, resulting in a governance model that is transparent and that meaningfully incorporates stakeholder input; and increasing external support through grants, contracts, and fundraising.
Required qualifications include an earned terminal degree and qualifications for appointment as a full professor with tenure in one of the University’s academic departments. Candidates must also have a minimum of five years of successful experience in a university academic leadership role (dean, associate/assistant dean, department chair, etc.) and experience in effectively leading large teams of people and managing significant budgets. The successful candidate will have outstanding interpersonal skills, organizational skills, and written and oral communication skills as well as a demonstrated commitment to collaboration, diversity and inclusion.
