Chair, Department of Emergency Medicine

The Medical University of South Carolina College of Medicine in Charleston, S.C., invites applications and nominations for the position of Professor and Chair of the Department of Emergency Medicine.  Applicants must be Board certified in Emergency Medicine, possess outstanding leadership skills and administrative experience, and demonstrate a strong commitment to clinical care, education, service, and research.

The Department of Emergency Medicine was formally established July 1, 2017; adult emergency medicine previously was a division of the Department of Medicine.  The department has a strong focus on resident, fellow and medical student education.  In addition to an ACGME accredited residency program, the department offers fellowship training in Emergency Ultrasound and Global Health.  The department provides care to over 70,000 adult patients annually, and partners with the Division of Pediatric Emergency Medicine which serves 25,000 patients annually.  MUSC provides tertiary care services for all adult and pediatric conditions, making MUSC the state’s quaternary care center.  Emergency Medicine faculty have extensive experience in a number of specialties including simulation, emergency ultrasound, global health, critical care, cardiovascular disease, informatics, EMS, toxicology, stroke, and hospital administration.

The Medical University of South Carolina and MUSC Health are in the midst of an exciting period of growth with increases in extramural research funding, support for expanding telehealth activities, new clinical outreach facilities, and the construction of a new Children’s and Women’s Hospital.  This is an outstanding opportunity for the right candidate in a city known for its enviable quality of life.

Applications and nominations may be sent to the Emergency Medicine Chair Search Committee, in care of Jennifer Nall at nallj@musc.edu.  Interested individuals should submit a letter of interest, curriculum vitae, and the names and contact information of three references via the MUSC employment website at https://www.jobs.musc.edu, job# 503609.
