Duties and Responsibilities | BASIC FUNCTION : Provide research and programmatic support for the Center's initiatives, and conduct statewide outreach for the Rhode Island Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program ( SNAP ) Outreach Project. Directly responsible for recruiting, training, scheduling, supervising, and evaluating student outreach staff. This includes identifying appropriate outreach sites, developing relationships with community agencies, and arranging for placement of outreach staff as well as working closely with staff and administration from RI Department of Human Services. Provide support to clients requiring assistance in accessing DHS services. Evaluation of program placement effectiveness and outreach outcomes is a critical component. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES : Provide research, programmatic and administrative support for Center initiatives and outreach efforts. Conduct statewide outreach for SNAP , including direct outreach, hotline management, and client follow up. Identify and schedule placement sites for all SNAP Outreach student workers. Develop and maintain effective working relationships with community partners. Recruit, train, and supervise student outreach workers. Plan and conduct regular meetings for outreach staff; provide consistent training updates, and establish protocols for ongoing communication with staff. Work collaboratively with RI Department of Human Service staff and administrators and provide assistance to clients who face challenges in accessing DHS programs. Conduct community site visits, and advise and troubleshoot issues in the field. Supervise the collection and analysis of data utilized to write reports. Research and keep up-to-date on SNAP policy. Ensure that policy-related outreach materials remain current. OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES : Assist with the evaluation of the Center's outreach efforts. Assist with report and grant writing. Represent the Center at community meetings and forums as needed. Assist in other related duties as required. LICENSES , TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT : Personal computers and printers; word processing, Microsoft Office Suite; database management and spreadsheet software. |
Required Qualifications | REQUIRED : 1. Bachelor's degree and minimum five years of professional work experience in academic, governmental, social service, and/or grass-roots community organizations (two years of which must be in community-based outreach activities) OR Master's degree and minimum one year graduate school research or work experience. 2. Demonstrated experience with populations receiving government assistance program benefits. 3. Demonstrated strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills. 4. Demonstrated proficiency in written communication skills. 5. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively. 6. Demonstrated organizational skills. 7. Demonstrated supervisory experience. 8. Willingness to travel. 9. Demonstrated experience in Microsoft Office applications (including Word and Excel). 10. Demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups/populations. |
Preferred Qualifications | PREFERRED : 1. Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with SNAP or other government assistance programs for low-income populations. 2. Demonstrated experience working with college student populations. 3. Demonstrated ability to converse in Spanish. |
