Clinical Pathologist

The Department of Pathobiology (http://infinity.vet.upenn.edu/research/academic-departments/pathobiology), at the University of Pennsylvania, School of Veterinary Medicine, invites applications for an Academic Clinician or Assistant Professor (clinician educator track) faculty position (clinician educator track) in veterinary clinical pathology. The successful candidate will have primary responsibility in diagnostic clinical pathology and will be the Chief of the Clinical Pathology Laboratory at the Matthew J Ryan Veterinary Hospital in Philadelphia (http://infinity.vet.upenn.edu/veterinary-hospitals/ryan-veterinary-hospital/services/diagnostic-laboratories/diagnostic-labs-team).
Penn Vet's Ryan Hospital is one of the nation's busiest veterinary teaching hospitals, with close to 33,000 small animal patient visits each year, 13,000 of which are emergency cases. The Ryan Hospital has been designated as a Certified Level I Facility by the Veterinary Emergency & Critical Care Society and was recently designated as one of the nation's top veterinary trauma centers by the American College of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care. Philadelphia is a city steeped in history and culture and with four medical schools and several major biotech and pharmaceutical companies it is a city rich in scientific tradition and opportunity.
Applicants should have a DVM / VMD or equivalent degree and be board-certified in Clinical Pathology by the American College of Veterinary Pathologists. It is anticipated that this appointment will be made at the Assistant Professor level, but applications from exceptional individuals at more senior academic ranks will also be considered.
The successful candidate will be actively involved in the diagnostic work up of clinical and surgical cases with specialists. Duties will be defined by the appointment status but will include clinical service and teaching (didactic, laboratory, and clinical cases for professional students and practicing veterinarians). Assistant Professors in the CE track are also expected to participate in scholarly activity in their area of interest.
The position is available on July 15st 2014 and will remain open until the position is filled. Rank and salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
