Shippensburg University is currently seeking applications for a Director for Diverse Student Retention.  The anticipated salary will be $62,228 to $82,969 annually and includes an extensive benefits package and tuition waiver for the employee and dependents. 

 

The Director for Diverse Student Retention will develop retention and multicultural programs that support student success while incorporating a case management approach to working with students in providing mentoring, tutoring, supplemental instruction, seminars, workshops, student involvement programs, support groups etc.  The Director will oversee the academic professional team members and staff, student workers and volunteers and will provide leadership to the Director of the Martin Luther King Program, a retention focused program for academically prepared minority students.  In addition, the Director will implement and oversee leadership development programs for students from underrepresented populations and will develop and deliver leadership development workshops and seminars.  The Director will develop an annual minority student retention plan by collaborating across the University’s Colleges and Divisions to create an actionable set of retention measures focusing on the needs of students from underrepresented populations.  

 

Shippensburg University, established in 1871, is a comprehensive public university offering baccalaureate, masters and doctoral degree programs.  Enrolling 6,600 students, the residential campus is located in scenic south central Pennsylvania.  The campus is in close proximity to Harrisburg, PA and within a few hours’ drive of Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Baltimore, MD and Washington, DC.  The University is noted for its strong sense of community with a commitment to student success and offers an attractive campus, and strong alumni support.

 

Qualified candidates will have a Master’s Degree from a regionally accredited institution in education, counseling, social work, student personnel or a related field.   Experience advising first generation and low-income students from underrepresented populations in an educational setting is required.  Candidates must show a demonstrated ability to work with as well as understand the needs and characteristics of economically disadvantaged, first-generation and/or diverse students in an educational setting.  Demonstrated strong interpersonal, communication and management skills with the ability to work effectively within a diverse setting is also required.  Successful performance in an on-campus interview is required.  A doctorate/terminal degree and three or more years of experience advising students is preferred.  Demonstrated experience with intrusive advising and/or case management is preferred.  Experience working with a student caseload while showing demonstrated experience with prioritizing and flexibility and experience in collaboration among colleagues and/or departments to focus on meeting the needs of students is preferred.  Experience working in an early alert system and EAB/Student Success Collaborative is also preferred.
