The Department of Media Studies and Production in Temple University’s School of Media and Communication invites applications from senior faculty for the position of department chair to begin summer 2015. This is a tenured faculty position in a department of approximately 900 majors who study audio, video and electronic media production; management of media institutions; and social and psychological functions, processes and effects of media. The department offers an M.A. degree and contributes to an inter-departmental M.S. program in Globalization and Development Communication and the Ph.D. program in the School of Media and Communication.
We seek an established media studies scholar with qualifications suitable for appointment as full professor, whose teaching and research complement departmental offerings and strengths. The successful candidate will possess the dedication, vision and leadership skills to guide the department in its mission to prepare students to become responsible communicators as they create, critique and analyze media content designed for audiences in a global society.
A Ph.D. is required, as is an understanding of and appreciation for the creative processes and industry dynamics involved with media production. Applicants should have an established scholarly research trajectory and a record of teaching both undergraduate and graduate courses commensurate with the qualifications for full professor.
