Film and Media Arts – Screenwriting
POSITION: Full-time tenure-track faculty appointment in Film and Media Arts RANK/SALARY: Assistant Professor, tenure-track appointment in Film and Media Arts.
Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience
QUALIFICATIONS: Film & Media Arts seeks a screenwriter or screenwriter/director to teach at both the undergraduate and graduate level.The ideal candidate will have professional screenwriting credits for produced narrative films and/or television, as well as prior teaching experience. Experience in writing for documentary films and other media is also desirable, as well as a comprehensive knowledge of the theory, as well as the craft, of writing for the screen. Teaching duties will range from introductory to advanced screenwriting and television serial writing courses. Screenwriters who have experience directing will also have the opportunity to teach directing and script to screen courses. The successful candidate will be expected to advise undergraduates and graduate students on their thesis screenplays and productions. An MFA or equivalent professional experience is required; recognition in the form of grants or awards is desirable. The Department strongly encourages applications by women and minority candidates.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Teach undergraduate and graduate courses; advise and mentor students; maintain a visible profile of research and/or creative activity; and engage in appropriate service to the department, the university, and the profession.
ABOUT THE PROGRAM: The Film & Media Arts Department is an internationally recognized program in documentary, independent narrative, and experimental forms. The program encourages a cross-disciplinary mix of theory and practice including hybrid and digital arts production, and a history of producing socially conscious filmmakers. Film & Media Arts is a member of Temple’s Center for the Performing and Cinematic Arts, which includes the School of Theater, Film and Media Arts and the Boyer College of Music and Dance. It is located on the University’s main campus in the culturally rich and diverse city of Philadelphia. For more information about the department, consult the web site at www.temple.edu/fma. Fall 2016 enrollment in Film and Media Arts is 600 students—560 undergraduate and 40 graduate students—served by 21 full-time and numerous affiliate faculty. The Department offers BA, BFA, MA, MFA and PhD degrees.
