Visiting Assistant Professor of Athletic Training

The Department of Health, Nutrition, and Exercise Science (HNES) in the School of Science, Engineering and Health at Messiah College invites applications for a one-year Visiting Assistant Professor of Athletic Training faculty position. This is a full-time, nine-month position beginning in August 2018. There is potential for this position to become term-tenure-track, pending approved program transition to an entry-level master’s of athletic training.

 

Responsibilities: Teach athletic training and other courses in the HNES department. In addition to traditional teaching responsibilities, the successful candidate must demonstrate willingness to contribute to departmental initiatives.

 

Qualifications: PhD preferred in rehabilitation science, kinesiology, exercise physiology or related field, but an appropriate Master’s or clinical doctorate degree may be considered. Additionally, the successful candidate will be eligible for PA licensure, and demonstrate a minimum of three years clinical experience as an athletic trainer. Individuals with teaching and previous experience as a clinical preceptor will receive preference. Messiah College selects its educators for their Christian commitment as well as their proven teaching ability. Candidates must demonstrate evidence of or potential for strong classroom teaching and willingness to commit to the institution’s mission and statement of faith.

 

The Program: Messiah College’s athletic training major averages 15 students per cohort and has an overall Board of Certification pass rate of near 100%. Athletic training facilities include a newly renovated athletic training room, dedicated athletic training lab and classroom space, and additional exercise physiology labs.

 

The Department: HNES has fourteen full-time faculty members representing six academic majors; Adventure Education, Applied Health Science, Athletic Training, Health and Physical Education, Nutrition & Dietetics, and Sport Management. Overall, the HNES department has 280 students and is the 3rd largest department on campus.
