Assistant Director of Multicultural Programs

The Office of Student Affairs at Messiah College has an immediate opening for the position of Assistant Director of Multicultural Programs.

 

Responsibilities: This full-time, 11 month position (hours reduced to 20 hours per week during the months of June and July) provides mentoring and support for students from North American under-represented racial/ethnic communities. This position also serves to advance the College’s mission for reconciliation and education in the areas of race, ethnicity, and culture by fostering collaborations with co-curricular and curricular educators across campus and the wider community. In addition, the Assistant Director of Multicultural Student Programs works as a member of a team in the Intercultural Office and works with several aspects of multicultural student programming in the Office of Student Affairs.

 

Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree required plus a minimum of 1-2 years of administrative experience that includes working with racially/ethnically diverse groups, working in conflict management and mediation, and working in program planning and implementation. Master’s degree in higher education, student personnel, multicultural studies or a related field preferred.

 

Skills and Characteristics: Ability to administer multicultural student programs; knowledgeable of the unique experiences, concerns, and needs of students from North American under-represented racial/ethnic populations; knowledge of best practices related to fostering civil and open dialogue around issues of race and ethnicity, and the development of multicultural competencies on college campuses; knowledgeable of student development theory and application, and of multiracial development of college students; ability to plan and implement learning/training opportunities for students in the areas of anti-racism; intergroup dialogue, multicultural competencies, and reconciliation; strong mediation and conflict management skills; ability to recognize and facilitate opportunities for collaboration and reconciliation across Student Affairs and student groups; ability to plan and implement learning/training opportunities for students and/or employees in the areas of anti-racism; intergroup dialogue, multicultural competencies, and reconciliation; excellent written and verbal communication skills including communicating effectively across race, ethnicity, and culture; ability to support and articulate the college mission and vision for higher education
