Mathematics Faculty, Tenure-Track

The Department of Mathematics, Physics, and Statistics in the School of Science, Engineering and Health at Messiah College invites applications for a full-time, term tenure track mathematics faculty position beginning August 2018.

Responsibilities: Teach introductory to advanced undergraduate mathematics classes to mathematics, physics, and actuarial science majors, students in other majors (primarily engineering), and the general education curriculum; serve as academic advisor to students in the department (mathematics and actuarial science). In addition to these traditional teaching responsibilities, the successful candidate will be expected to be an active scholar and to contribute to departmental and institutional initiatives.  

Qualifications: PhD in Mathematics. Messiah College selects its educators for their Christian commitment as well as their proven teaching ability. They are outstanding teachers, scholars, authors, and experts in their fields. Candidates must evidence the potential for strong classroom teaching.

The Program: Messiah College’s Mathematics, Physics, and Statistics department offers the following undergraduate degrees: BA in Mathematics, BA in Mathematics with Secondary Teaching Certification, BS in Actuarial Science, BA and BS in Physics, BA in Physics with Secondary Teaching Certification, and minors in Mathematics, Physics, and Statistics. In spring 2017, the department graduated 12 students, 9 of whom completed one of the mathematics majors.  

The Department: 9 full-time faculty members. Among these, our faculty of 4 in mathematics and 2 in statistics hold degrees from nationally and internationally recognized graduate schools— Lehigh, Virginia Tech, Drexel, Florida, Iowa, and Loyola (MD).  Scholarship and areas of professional interest include pure and applied mathematics, integration of Christian faith and mathematics, statistics education, statistical consulting, and first generation and underrepresented students.  In addition to serving students in our majors, the department enrolls more than 2500 students in courses annually, including online summer courses.

The College: Messiah College is a Christian college of the liberal and applied arts and sciences and has a student body of approximately 2,800 undergraduate students including 13.9% of under-represented and 5.0% international students from 32 countries and over 600 graduate students including 11.8% of students from under-represented populations.

Compensation:  Salary and rank commensurate with qualifications and experience.
