Criminal Justice Administration

Responsibilities

Effectively teach a general curriculum of Criminal Justice Administration courses as required by the needs of the department.  The successful applicant is expected to effectively teach a diverse student population; make professional, departmental, and university service contributions; maintain an active research agenda; fulfill the contractual requirements of the collective bargaining agreement; and advance Criminal Justice Administration at Mansfield University.  Online teaching is required of each member of the department.  Excellence in teaching, continuing scholarly growth and service to the university are required for tenure and promotion.

Qualifications

Minimum requirements: PhD or ABD in criminal justice or criminology; ability to teach general criminal justice related courses; and completion of a successful interview which includes a teaching demonstration on a criminal justice topic. ABD candidates must complete their doctorate within 18 months from the date of hire to continue in the position. Additional qualifications: Excellent communication skills (verbal and written), ability to work collaboratively with others; ability to teach and evaluate students; ability to adapt to changing technologies that support teaching and learning; possess excellent administrative and organizational skills; and demonstration, through past accomplishments and behaviors, of the ability to support Mansfield University’s principles and values of Character, Scholarship, Culture, Service (http://www1.mansfield.edu/mansfield-creed) and the University’s strong student-centered vision and mission. Preferred: PhD in criminal justice or criminology; research and teaching interests in juvenile justice and delinquency, victimology, comparative justice systems, minority and gender studies, and/or research methods/statistics; prior university level teaching experience; and criminal justice subject matter publication. Other conditions of employment are verification of all earned degrees through the receipt of original transcripts, an acceptable background check report, authorization to be employed in the United States or the ability to obtain prior to commencement of employment, and positive references.

Essential Functions

Effective teaching and advising, continued scholarly growth and service to the department, university, and community.  Ability to effectively communicate and teach through the use of electronic teaching technology in an online environment and other forms of distance education.  Ability to use computer application programs such as word processing, spreadsheets, e-mail, and other software. Work cooperatively with staff, faculty and administration. May be required to lift, stand, walk, reach with arms, etc.

Status
