Job Description Summary

Lock Haven University invites application for a part time (50%), faculty position in the Department of PreK-Grade 8 Education and Professional Studies beginning August 18, 2018 and ending May 24, 2019.

Essential Duties

The successful candidate will teach 6 credit hours of coursework per semester, maintain office hours as specified by the CBA , fulfill departmental responsibilities as assigned, and participate in University functions.

The successful candidate will primarily teach undergraduate coursework within the Early Childhood or Middle Level Education programs, including Math or Science Methods. Supervisory responsibilities of students completing field experiences or student teaching may also be assigned. The department may choose to assign other courses within the expertise area(s) of the candidate as needed.

This position may require development and teaching of courses online.

Minimum Qualifications (Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)

The successful candidate must have a minimum of 3 years K- grade 8 teaching experience in the United States; demonstrated expertise in PreK-grade 4 and/or grades 4 -8 education, and a minimum of a Master's Degree in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, or a related field such as math or science education.

Terminal degree is required for appointment as Assistant Professor, without the terminal degree candidate will be appointed as Instructor.

In addition, the following are required:
Valid teaching certificate required;
FBI fingerprint check, PA Child Abuse, PA Criminal Background Check required.

The successful candidate must be able to communicate well and/or perform well in an interview or teaching demonstration and successfully complete the interview process.

Preferred Qualifications

Doctorate Degree in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, or related field from an accredited university, college teaching experience, experience with diverse populations, and supervisory experience.

Physical Demands

Must be able to travel to and from participation and/or student teaching sites to provide supervision.

Position is dependent upon funding and enrollment.

Background Clearances

In accordance with Act 153 of 2014 (HB 435), appointment is contingent upon completion of a satisfactory background investigation which includes, but is not limited to, Act 34, Pennsylvania Criminal Record Clearance; Act 151, Child Abuse Clearance; and Act 114, Federal Bureau of Investigations ( FBI ) Criminal Background Checks.

Appointment is provisional for a single 90 day period provided the "Arrest/Conviction Report and Certification Form" and verification of your application for the three background checks are returned to Deana Hill, Associate VP for Human Resources.

Annual Security Report (Clery Act)

The Lock Haven University's Annual Security Report and Fire Safety Report are now available on-line or in paper form by request. Federal law requires these reports to contain policy statements, crime and fire safety statistics for the university. The policy statements address the university's policies, procedures, and programs concerning safety and security, i.e. policies for responding to emergency situations, fire safety procedures and statistics, and sexual offenses, etc. Three years' worth of statistics is included for certain types of crimes that were reported to have occurred on campus, in on-campus buildings, or off-campus sites property owned or controlled by the university and on public property within, or immediately adjacent to the campus.
