Position Summary Information

Job Description Summary

The University invites applications for a part-time (12.7%), temporary faculty Technical Theatre for the Fall 2018, beginning August 18, 2018 and ending January 4, 2019.

The successful candidate will be knowledgeable about current practices in scenic design and construction. Areas of expertise should include scene design, scene painting, and drafting. The candidate will also supervise the scene shop operations, including instructing students in the safe operation of power tools and techniques.

Essential Duties

This part time position will require Scenic Design for one Main Stage production.

Minimum Qualifications (Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)
  • A completed BA or BFA degree in Design/Tech Theatre or a Bachelor's degree and commensurate experience in Technical Theatre and Design.
  • Terminal degree is required for appointment as Assistant Professor, without the terminal degree candidate will be appointed as Instructor.
  • Strong organizational skills, proactive, positive approaches to student supervision and interaction, and a high level of collegiality and collaboration with peers and students are expected.

The successful candidate must be able to communicate well and/or perform well in an interview or teaching demonstration and successfully complete the interview process.

Preferred Qualifications

Preference will be given to individuals with professional theatre design experience.

Physical Demands

Position can be physically active with management of the scenic shop and coordination of scenic and construction/design implementation.

Position is dependent upon funding and enrollment.

Background Clearances

In accordance with Act 153 of 2014 (HB 435), appointment is contingent upon completion of a satisfactory background investigation which includes, but is not limited to, Act 34, Pennsylvania Criminal Record Clearance; Act 151, Child Abuse Clearance; and Act 114, Federal Bureau of Investigations ( FBI ) Criminal Background Checks.

Appointment is provisional for a single 90 day period provided the "Arrest/Conviction Report and Certification Form" and verification of your application for the three background checks are returned to Deana Hill, Associate VP for Human Resources.

Annual Security Report (Clery Act)

The Lock Haven University's Annual Security Report and Fire Safety Report are now available on-line or in paper form by request. Federal law requires these reports to contain policy statements, crime and fire safety statistics for the university. The policy statements address the university's policies, procedures, and programs concerning safety and security, i.e. policies for responding to emergency situations, fire safety procedures and statistics, and sexual offenses, etc. Three years' worth of statistics is included for certain types of crimes that were reported to have occurred on campus, in on-campus buildings, or off-campus sites property owned or controlled by the university and on public property within, or immediately adjacent to the campus.
