Job Description Summary

The Sport Studies Department of Lock Haven University (http://www.lhup.edu/colleges/Business_Information/sport_studies/) invites applications for a full-time temporary position to begin August 18, 2018 and end May 24, 2019.

We invite individuals with expertise in Sport Administration/Sport Management to apply.

The Sport Studies Department is part of the Stephen Poorman College of Business, Information Systems, and Human Services.

We offer an undergraduate major in Sport Administration, undergraduate minor in Sport and Exercise Psychology, and Master of Science in Sport Science with tracks in Sport Administration and Sport and Exercise Psychology. We also offer two accelerated programs from our undergraduate degree into our two graduate tracks.

The Sport Studies Department serves approximately 260 undergraduate and 75 graduate students.

Essential Duties

The successful candidate will assume teaching responsibilities at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and will be expected to demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching, research, and service.

A willingness to work with masters students will be viewed favorably and experience with educational and professional technologies would be an asset.

This position may require development and teaching of online/distance education courses.

Specific Duties

Responsibilities may include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in sport business finance, sport marketing, and other areas as needed.

Responsibilities may also include supervision of undergraduate and/or graduate field experiences.

Minimum Qualifications (Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)

Doctorate in Sport Administration/Sport Management or closely related field preferred. Terminal degree is required for appointment as Assistant Professor, without the terminal degree candidate will be appointed as Instructor.

The department highly values quality teaching and candidates should provide evidence of innovative teaching at the college level.

The successful candidate must possess strong communication skills as demonstrated through an interview and effective teaching demonstration.

Preferred Qualifications

Preference will be given to candidates whose teaching and research interests advance the mission of our department and complement current faculty interests.

Demonstrated record of teaching excellence at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

Demonstrated online teaching experience.

Evidence of potential for scholarly productivity.

Sport industry work experience.

Background Clearances

In accordance with Act 153 of 2014 (HB 435), appointment is contingent upon completion of a satisfactory background investigation which includes, but is not limited to, Act 34, Pennsylvania Criminal Record Clearance; Act 151, Child Abuse Clearance; and Act 114, Federal Bureau of Investigations ( FBI ) Criminal Background Checks.

Appointment is provisional for a single 90 day period provided the "Arrest/Conviction Report and Certification Form" and verification of your application for the three background checks are returned to Deana Hill, Associate VP for Human Resources.

Annual Security Report (Clery Act)

The Lock Haven University's Annual Security Report and Fire Safety Report are now available on-line or in paper form by request. Federal law requires these reports to contain policy statements, crime and fire safety statistics for the university. The policy statements address the university's policies, procedures, and programs concerning safety and security, i.e. policies for responding to emergency situations, fire safety procedures and statistics, and sexual offenses, etc. Three years' worth of statistics is included for certain types of crimes that were reported to have occurred on campus, in on-campus buildings, or off-campus sites property owned or controlled by the university and on public property within, or immediately adjacent to the campus.
