Assistant Director, Fraternity & Sorority Affairs

The Living, Learning & Leadership department provides intentional educational experiences for students that support the academic mission of the University. We are a team of creative and talented full-time professionals who lead the areas of Fraternity and Sorority Affairs, Residential Education, New Student Orientation, and Student Leadership Programs. By centering student learning and affording students the authorship of their own Bucknell experience, we thoughtfully cultivate residential and leadership opportunities to advance individual growth and development. Bucknell maintains a rich tradition of fraternal life, which began with the founding of the first fraternity in 1855 and the first sorority in 1895. The fraternity and sorority community is comprised of 18 chapters and membership totaling approximately 50% of the eligible student body facilitated through a sophomore status deferred recruitment process. Fraternity and Sorority Affairs staff provides oversight and advisement to 8 Panhellenic Association, 8 Interfraternity Council and 2 culturally-based sororities.

The Assistant Director of Fraternity and Sorority Affairs (AD), is a twelve-month live-in appointment. The AD's responsibilities encompass direct advisement of the Interfraternity Council, including council and chapter officers for member organizations. Additionally, the AD will assume responsibilities related to residential living and provide supervision to the housing student staff (Peer Advisers) in Hunt Hall—home of the Panhellenic Association sororities. The AD will collaboratively lead in the design and execution the office's signature programs that address leadership, student health/safety, risk management, hazing prevention, and community recognition. The AD is one of two professional staff members that support the Greek-letter community and report to the Director of Fraternity & Sorority Affairs.

Council Advising
* Advise and mentor the leadership of the Interfraternity Council.
* Provide learning and growth opportunities through council retreats, community-wide strategic planning, and intentional educational programs.
* Provide the leadership and support to help the Greek-letter community move in a direction that meets its stated purposes, legal, and institutional requirements, and the honest expectations of both alumni and representatives of the inter/national organizations.

Supervision
* Supervise executive board members and/or chapter presidents.
* Support student growth and development as leaders.
* Meet regularly with community leaders to provide guidance, direction, and mentorship.

Chapter Responsibility and Accountability
* Hold chapters accountable for their actions if in conflict with the University, Fraternity and Sorority Affairs, and council policies and procedures.
* Coordinate the management and oversight of the Greek Management Team, a group of students that ensure chapters are compliant with council/University risk management procedures.

Recruitment
* Oversee and advise the fraternity recruitment process in accordance with university, international organization, and NIC standards.
* In collaboration with IFC leadership, coordinate Fraternity 101 Series, a four-part program required for all potential new members.
Expansion and New Chapter Development
* Work closely with headquarters staff and appropriate alumni on the return or establishment of new chapters.
* Actively recruit NPHC and Multicultural Greek-letter organizations and create the infrastructure and support for the chapters to be successful.

Education and Programming
Signature Programs and Resource Development -
* Design, develop, and execute signature office programs. Signature programs include: council/leadership transitions, community recognition, new member development, and hazing prevention programming.
* Design, develop, and deliver services and resources for the fraternity and sorority community that promote leadership, scholarship, service, and organizational development.

Student-Driven Programming
* Assist student staff and chapter leadership with design and implementation of educational programming and community development within a residential and chapter context.
* Educate and encourage student responsibility, ownership, and accountability.
* Support chapter-wide programming and initiatives.

Health, Wellness, and Harm Reduction
* Design and launch educational experiences that promote personal wellness and healthy choices for members.
* Educate chapter members on University and organizational risk management policies and provide training that members can integrate into consistent practice.
* Partner with Counseling and Student Development Center, Bucknell Student Health, and local entities to provide integrated health and wellness programming.

University Housing & Administration
University Housing
* Provide supervision and leadership to Sorority Peer Advisers (residential student staff).
* Support and foster a sense of community within the residential environment.
* Provide consistent presence to the Greek-letter community by walking through Hunt Hall and conducting meetings/informal gatherings with residents.
* Work in close collaboration with colleagues in Residential Education and Housing Services to coordinate fraternity/sorority opening, closing, health/safety inspections to ensure a seamless living experience across campus.
* Maintain availability and accessibility to respond to critical student incidents or crisis.

Student Conduct
* Assist in the administration of the Student Code as it relates to organizational conduct.
* Assist in the supervision of the sanctions.
* On occasion, provide individual student referrals and serve as a hearing officer for non-Greek related matters.

Administration/Management
* Facilitate online event registration process and approval for on-campus events.
* Work with Banner as it relates to roster management and billing support.
* Utilize StarRez to facilitate housing accurate placements, maintain up-to-date housing rosters, and distribute communication to residents.

Communication
* Maintain honest, courteous, and ethical relations with all alumni, headquarters representatives, parents/families, and fraternity/sorority constituents. Identify, support, and appropriately refer individuals who exhibit academic, social, and personal needs.
* Maintain confidentiality of all student issues and matters in compliance with FERPA.
* Maintain a high level of professionalism and integrity.

Departmental and Divisional Responsibilities
* Represent the department and division by serving on University committees.
* Attend and actively participate in departmental and divisional staff meetings and retreats.
* Serve in an on-call rotation with other divisional colleagues assisting with the coordination of student emergency responses.
* Represent the department and division at University events including Open Houses.
* Maintain a high degree of visibility and availability to students, faculty and staff.
* Complete other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
• Master's degree in college student personnel, higher education administration or related field
• Minimum of one year experience working directly with fraternity/sorority advising, leadership development or residential education within a higher education setting
• Knowledge of and a working understanding of NIC and NPC and policies, fraternity and sorority affairs, and risk management policies in a university setting
• Strong commitment to student growth, development and supporting a residential community
• Ability to work collaboratively across cultures and styles at all levels of the organization
• Demonstrated commitment to diversity & inclusion
• Strong organizational skills
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills - oral and written
• Ability to cultivate and maintain strong relationships, and build consensus and support

• Experience working with Star Rez software
