Major Gifts Officer

Gettysburg College, a highly selective four-year residential college of liberal arts and sciences with 2,600 students located on a 200-acre campus adjacent to Gettysburg National Military Park in Pennsylvania, approximately one hour from Baltimore and Washington, D.C., seeks qualified candidates for a Major Gifts Officer position within the Division of Development, Alumni and Parent Relations.

As a member of the major gifts team, the Major Gifts Officer will carry a national portfolio of approximately 150-175 major gift prospects, with the financial capacity to make gifts of $100,000 or more, in two or more geographically defined areas across the U.S. The Major Gifts Officer will be responsible for managing the on-going qualification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of prospects (alumni, parents, and friends). The Major Gifts Officer will be required to travel extensively within assigned regions to meet with donors and prospects while also maintaining professional connections with colleagues within the Division and across campus.  The Major Gifts Officer will serve as development liaison to a specific campus program, and will be responsible for working with other development officers to identify prospects and corresponding funding priorities to meet the needs and objectives of that program. The Major Gifts Officer will report to the Director of Major Gifts, and will be responsible for devising and executing strategies for engagement, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of prospects in order to meet or exceed established goals, metrics and quarterly projections. The successful candidate will join the team as the College enters its final months of a $150 million comprehensive campaign, with the expectation to continue the trajectory of fundraising success through execution and support of the College’s strategic plan.

Qualifications: Bachelor's degree required, preferably from a liberal arts college.  At least four years of successful experience in major gifts fundraising or the equivalent is strongly preferred. Other relevant relationship management and fundraising experience will be considered. Evidence of intellectual curiosity and inquisitiveness is ideal; enthusiasm for, and comfort with, frequent travel is a must. Experience with parent fundraising is highly desirable, as well as experience with planned giving. The preferred candidate will have a proven record of closing six- and seven-figure commitments, and possess the ability to develop and implement effective cultivation and solicitation strategies that result in matching donors’ needs and interests with philanthropic opportunities for financial support of the College. The successful candidate will have a strong interest in promoting Gettysburg’s fundraising priorities through the development of excellent relationships with college leadership, campus partners, faculty, trustees, volunteers and the Development, Alumni and Parent Relations team. Organizational and time management skills are essential as is the ability to work effectively both as part of a team and independently. Professional conduct and appropriate handling of confidential information is required.  This position requires some evening and weekend responsibilities. Must have a valid drivers license, as driving is an essential function of the position.

Gettysburg College seeks candidates who have the communication skills and cross-cultural abilities to maximize their effectiveness with diverse groups of students, colleagues and community members.
