Portland Community College Sylvania Campus' Arts, Performance and Design (APD) Division is seeking a full-time instructor in Communication Studies. This division is comprised of nine (9) departments/areas of study; Architecture, Art, Communication, Journalism, Dance, Graphic Design, Interior Design, Music and Theater Arts. These departments often work in collaboration to help enhance our students college experience. This position requires knowledge of communication and journalism topics, including but not limited to: Oral Communication, Public Speaking, Persuasive Speaking, and Intercultural Communication. There are presently 16 sections of Communication Studies courses as well as 4 Journalism courses.



As the largest post-secondary institution in Oregon, PCC serves nearly 73,000 full-time and part-time students. Candidate Profile
These qualifications, skills and abilities are critical for success in this position.
Throughout the screening process, you will be evaluated based on the demonstration of these qualifications.-Knowledge of theory and best practices of teaching Public Speaking and at least one of the following: Interpersonal Communication or Introduction to Communication-Ability or capacity to teach Communication or Journalism courses on-line-Ability to create a student-centered learning environment that supports diverse learners-Demonstrates an understanding of the diversity, educational challenges and needs of community college students-Demonstrates exceptional oral and written communication skills-Demonstrates the ability to work collegially, creatively and collaboratively at the department/division/campus/college levelsMinimum QualificationsTo be considered, your application must demonstrate these minimum qualifications. (Experience is calculated based on the start and end dates you provide multiplied by the number of hours per week worked).Masters degree in Speech Communication, Communication, Communication Studies
OR
Interdisciplinary degrees that include a minimum of 30 graduate credits in Speech Communication
OR
Any related Speech Communication Masters degree (e.g. Telecommunications or Mass Communication) to teach subject-related courses

Degree must be from an accredited institution.Preferred Qualifications- A minimum of 2 years of college-level teaching experienceSalary:
Initial Salary Placement up to Step 3 ($56,274) will be based on related experience, per PCC's collective bargaining agreement.

Paid Leave:
- 1 day of sick leave for every 18 days worked (~10 days/year)
- 21 hours of additional personal leave per year
- 4 paid holidays (which occur during the term you are teaching)
