Eyeglass Program Coordinator (Coffee Creek Correctional Facility)

Job Summary
This Portland Community College position is located in the minimum security section of Coffee Creek Correctional Facility, in Wilsonville, Oregon.

Beginning students of the program will learn fundamentals of opticianry and certified paraoptometric to sit for the national certified paraoptometric exam. Advanced students study curriculum of Certified Paraoptometric Assistant to prepare for that exam.

Students also recycle all eyewear for the Lions Club in the state of Oregon. This eyewear is used on sight missions to give the gift of sight. Students also learn how to operate a finishing lab and the program produces all eyewear for adults incarcerated in the Oregon Department of Corrections.

Coffee Creek Correctional Facility is a multi-custody prison accommodating all of Oregon's female inmates.

This is a medium/maximum correctional facility with restricted access; no cellphones; pagers; or other personal electronic equipment are allowed.

Responsibilities/Duties
Typical Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Direct inmate workers in the sorting, sanitizing, repair and calibration of recycled eye ware in partnership the Oregon Lions Sight and Hearing Foundation.

2. Train students in opticianry and para-optometric curriculum in preparation for the paraoptometric certification exam (CPO) and the Certified Paraoptometric Assistant exam (CPOA).

3. Manage and coordinate Coffee Creek optical lab. Train students and supervise eyeglass finishing lab that fill prescriptions and provides eyeglasses for statewide DOC facilities.

- Skill in delivering public presentations and effective group facilitation.
- Ability to work with an ethnically and culturally diverse staff and student population.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects and work in an environment with regular interruption.
- Ability to communicate technical information in a clear and understandable manner.
- Ability to operate a variety of office equipment.
- Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form.
- Ability to work in a correctional facility and have daily contact with inmates who have the potential for becoming hostile.


Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications

Educational Requirements:

One or more of the following:
- American Board of Opticianry Certified (ABOC)
- Certified Paraoptometric (CPO)
- Certified Paraoptometric Assistant (CPOA)
- Certified Paraoptometric Technician (CPOT)
- Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA)
- Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT)
- Certified Ophthalmic Medical Technologist (COMT)

OR

- A Bachelor's degree in Education, Communication, Psychology, Social Science, or occupational related field

(Four years of full-time equivalent experience performing the duties of this job may substitute for the educational requirement).


Experience Requirement:
- Demonstrated experience in an educational or training environment. (minimum of 1 year full-time equivalent)

- Demonstrated experience working with at-risk and/or culturally diverse population. (minimum of 1 year full-time equivalent)

- Demonstrated experience in the development and delivery of industry and/or workforce training. (minimum of 1 year full-time equivalent)

- Must have working knowledge of workforce development issues.

Other equivalent combinations of experience and training will also be considered.

- Salary Range 2016/2017 Range: $42,429 to $73,568 per year (range reflects 17 annual salary steps, and starting wage rarely exceeds steps 1-3, which are $42,429 - $45,450 per year)
