The Adult Basic Skills (ABS) program at PCC serves approximately 2700 students enrolled in ABE (Adult Basic Education), GED certificate and ESOL (English Speakers of Other Languages) classes. Our focus is on the improvement of English language and basic skills (reading, writing, and math). The students we serve come with a wide range of academic skills and include English learners, non-literate and pre-college level students.

The Adult Basic Skills (ABS) Navigator at the Hillsboro Center is responsible for providing a broad range of services and support to students who are enrolled in lower level ESOL classes (levels 1-3). Generally, the ABS Navigator provides intake, assessment and orientation to incoming students, and advising and resource referrals (college services and community services) to enrolled students. The ABS Navigator at the Hillsboro Center works primarily independently but also collaborates with other ABS program staff, instructors and advisors within the college. In addition, the ABS navigator at the Hillsboro Center develops and implements recruitment and retention strategies to assist students transitioning to upper level ESOL classes. Each year we serve approximately 300 students who enroll in ESOL levels 1, 2, and 3 at the Hillsboro Center.

"Adult Basic Sills Navigator" is the working title for this position. The title in the PCC Classification system is "Student Resource Specialist".
