Associate Dean and Director of Student Services

Ohio University Zanesville seeks an Associate Dean and Director of Student Services to provide academic leadership and the oversight of student affairs at the Zanesville campus, one of five regional commuter campuses of Ohio University offering primarily pre-professional associate and bachelor degrees. Approximately forty internationally diverse tenure-track faculty, sixteen non-tenure track faculty and sixty part-time faculty teach at the Zanesville campus. The campus lies in a suburban setting in the City of Zanesville with a population of 28,000 and a service district of 180,000. A total of 1600 students (1165 FTE) commute to the 179-acre site 45 minutes east of Columbus and 2 hours west of Pittsburgh.

The primary purpose of the position is to provide leadership and the oversight of academic and student affairs at the Zanesville campus.

1. The Associate Dean reports to and assists the Dean in the overall administration of the campus, including day-to-day operations, fiscal management and academic programs.

2. Provides leadership and strategic support of the curriculum and management of course schedule and staffing to enable delivery of quality learning and teaching goals and objectives. Facility with institutional research and the assessment of student learning is critical, as is leadership in the development of academic programs, including interacting with central (Athens) campus chairs and program directors, coordinating schedules with faculty on other campuses, and utilizing technologically-facilitated and distance learning.

3. Works with the academic coordinators to support the faculty, and supervises several campus unit directors including Enrollment, the Student Success Center, Student Services, and the Information Center staff.

4. Helps address student concerns, writes reports, actively helps create and utilize institutional research data and is expected to participate in campus activities and community functions.

Minimum Qualifications:  This position requires an earned doctorate or equivalent, and at least three years’ experience in higher education administration. Teaching experience is also required. Candidate must exhibit a collaborative and communicative leadership philosophy, excellent analytical, verbal, and written communication and conflict resolution, and be able to demonstrate experience in supporting and implementing strategic planning activities.

Preferred Qualifications:  Knowledge of student recruitment, student services, distance learning and continuing education is preferred. The candidate should have a commitment to the mission of the regional campuses, innovative education, and teaching excellence, as well as a philosophy of open admissions and service to commuting traditional and non-traditional students.
