Assistant Professor of Psychology - Cognitive (Fac

The Department of Psychology at Denison University invites applications for a tenure track position at the level of Assistant Professor. At the time of appointment (August, 2016), candidates must have a Ph.D.in Cognitive Psychology or in Cognitive Science. Applicants with degrees in other areas (e.g., Social Psychology, Neuroscience, Developmental Psychology) will not be considered. The successful candidate will be expected to teach content and research courses at the undergraduate level in Cognitive Psychology, as well as Introductory Psychology, Research Methods (design and statistics), and junior-senior level courses in an area of expertise. Candidates should have research and teaching emphases in human cognition that can complement the current research and curricular offerings in our Department. The typical teaching load is 5 courses per year.

We seek applications that reveal candidates with A) a commitment to excellence, and/or evidence of success​​, in teaching B) a clear motivation to mentor undergraduates in a liberal arts setting C) the potential to​ develop a productive Cognitive Psychology research program that involves undergraduates, and D) a commitment to contribute actively to the growth of the Department and College.

The Psychology Department currently has 12 full time faculty members who represent a wide range of specialty areas. Departmental facilities include research areas, computer labs used for instruction and research, and smart classrooms equipped for multi-media instruction. There are college and departmental programs for mentoring and enhancing teaching. The college also offers generous support for faculty and student research, including a junior faculty leave following a successful third year review. Denison University has no graduate programs.
