The Associate Vice President will work closely with the Executive Vice President and Provost and members of the senior leadership team to design and implement an Office of Institutional Equity and oversee its administrative operations.

The Office will be responsible for clarifying and advancing the university’s commitment to equity and fairness, through promotion and education of the University’s applicable policies, procedures and practices. The Office will oversee our processes for appropriate assessment and response to claims of inequitable treatment and coordinate systemic evaluation of issues to ensure ongoing monitoring and improvement.

 

The Associate Vice President will lead this new Office, through a cross functional group of professional staff working collaboratively across the university, to:

  • Evaluate, assess and promote University policies that advance our values and ensure equitable treatment of students, faculty, and staff
  • Advance and develop existing University outreach, training, and educational efforts that support these values, including meaningful discrimination/harassment and retaliation awareness training and other training for faculty, staff and students
  • Oversee and administer processes to receive, assess, investigate, and resolve concerns of inequitable treatment of individuals, including management of investigation and resolution of complaints of discrimination, harassment and/or retaliation to effectuate their prompt, effective and equitable intake, invest

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Behavior Sciences or Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school
  • Minimum of ten years of direct leadership and management experience in a legal or regulatory environment
  • Experience in or with an academic institution
  • Demonstrated experience and success in interacting with high level executives and Board of Trustees
  • Verifiable track record establishing, cultivating and growing strong relationships up, down, across and outside the organization
  • Expert-level problem solving and proven ability to interpret analytical information, develop and drive outcomes and clearly communicate data driven decisions
  • Experience/expertise in creating a culture of compliance
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in identifying and developing key talent to serve on initiatives, programs and projects
  • Demonstrated experience in working with sensitive information and ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Knowledge of assessment tools and practices involving evaluation of campus climate and engagement surveys and ability to use the data to determine potential issues
  • Demonstrated leadership, organizational, planning and management skills along with experience supervising cross functional teams;
  • Deep knowledge of and ability to interpret nondiscrimination laws and legal guidance related to the laws;
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively and interact effectively with key stakeholders such as students, staff, faculty and community and governmental agencies;
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity and ability to uphold the universities policies around a diverse workforce;
  • Comfort with conflict, and the courage and integrity to pursue action consistent with the goals of civil rights law and university policy;
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills;
  • Strong presentation and facilitation skills with an emphasis on education and training for a variety of constituencies;
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills coupled with intellectual curiosity.
