Kennel Technician

(Work Study Student Woker)

*This is an Off-Campus Work Location*

The Kennel Technician is a part-time position. The sanctuary operates seven days a week; the regular work schedule for this position includes shift work which may include weekends, holidays, call-offs, and hours other than 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Applicant must be reliable. This position reports to the Head Kennel Technician.

GENERAL PURPOSE

The Kennel Technician is responsible for providing humane care and cleaning for the animals in the sanctuary.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The job duties and responsibilities represented in this job description in no way imply that these are the only duties to be performed.

Primary responsibilities include:

• Clean, scrub, and disinfect animal spaces and outdoor runs, hallways, some common areas, floors, walls; clean water and food dishes and related kennel equipment and facilities, clean and disinfect animal bedding.

• Administer prescribed medications to animals.

• Prepare food; feed and water animals.

• Identify sick animals, take precautions to prevent the spread of disease to other animals.

• Use the proper handling precautions for animals with behavioral issues.

• Other duties as assigned.

NECESSARY MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education and Experience

Education equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade. Must be at least 18 years of age.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Must hold a valid driver's license with driving record free from serious or frequent violations.

Ability to:

• Handle animals with available equipment.

• Walk and stand for long periods of time as well as ability to crouch and bend.

• Carry up to 50 lbs. with or without assistance.

• Provide care and upkeep of sanctuary and animals, to prioritize assignments, and to work independently.

• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, other organizations, and the general public.

• Understand and execute moderately complex oral or written directions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS : Must be enrolled in at least six (6) credit hours per semester. Must have a FEDERAL WORK STUDY award for the 2018-2019 academic year.
