Position Description

The University of Cincinnati Evaluation Services Center (UCESC) is seeking a Research Associate to join our team.The Research Associate will assist in the development, coordination and execution of mixed methods research as well as program and policy evaluations in education, human services, public health, and other related fields.

The Research Associate will participate in social, behavioral and health evaluation and research projects, including proposal development, project oversight, database management, primary and secondary data collection and analysis (quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methods), and report writing. The Research Associate will participate as a member of project teams, actively promote and contribute to the Center's continuous improvement, and contribute to the initiation of business development, including proposal writing. Responsibilities will also include supporting graduate assistants and junior employees in growth and development, as needed, for project work and other evaluation and research-related responsibilities as customarily performed by an employee in a similar position.

Major Duties and Responsibilities :

The successful candidate must have the ability and working knowledge to successfully perform the essential functions of the position, or be able to demonstrate how the functions will be performed. The Research Associate plays a significant role in making sure that data and information produced by UCESC is delivered accurately, efficiently, and professionally, both internally and externally. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Design, collect, analyze, create reports, and present data and information. Reports may include tables, charts, dashboards, and executive summaries, as needed.
  • Assist with various tasks associated with assessment studies, analysis and evaluation of academic and non-academic topics.
  • Conduct survey research, including survey design, administration and logistics.

  • Experience with mixed methods, including adoption and use of mixed methods research across disciplines and application of mixed methods in research and evaluation projects;
  • Experience with qualitative data collection and analysis software such as NVivo or MAXQDA;
  • Experience conducting evaluation and research writing in applied and academic contexts;
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills.


Minimum Qualifications :
  • Bachelor's degree in a profession/field or equivalent level of knowledge.


Ideal Qualifications :
  • Earned master's degree in applied research methods, data sciences, demography, economics, political science, psychology, public policy, sociology, history, information system or a related field at time of appointment; bachelor's degree with three (3) years' experience; experience and education must be in a related field and may also include one (1) year supervision in research methods, biostatistics, information science, or a related field (see above for examples).
  • Two (2) years demonstrated experience in project management.
  • Two (2) years demonstrated experience in conducting program evaluation or measurement.
  • One (1) year of supervisory experience.
