Research Associate

Position Description:

The School of Information Technology at the University of Cincinnati seeks to hire one Research Associate to start as soon as May 1, 2018.

The Research Associate will have lead developer responsibilities with the Information Technology Solutions Center. The lead developer responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Architect software solutions for clients using client-server and distributed micro service architecture
  • Develop software application to serve clients' needs, in particular those in retail enterprise with whom we collaborate
  • Lead teams of software developers working with Node.JS, Angular.JS, database management systems:
    • Mentor software developers
    • Lead daily standup meetings
    • Review and accept code written by software developers
  • Deploy and administer applications using Docker on Linux and Windows platform
  • Maintain application software repositories on Git
  • Research, develop and administer continuous integration solutions using Drone
  • Research and integrate software applications with statistical models using R and database management systems such as MS SQL server
  • Research and develop software ecosystems including server API, Web application interface and cross platform mobile applications using Ionic and Xamarin
  • Write programs and scripts with languages such as JavaScript, TypeScript, Python, C#, Java and C++.


In addition to the lead developer responsibilities, the Research Associate will:
  • Research and implement best practice in the software development process
  • Present and publish in related conferences and journals
  • Teach seminars and workshops on new technologies as needed
  • Teach computer programming courses in JavaScript and other languages as needed


Minimum Qualifications:

A Bachelor's degree in Information Technology or related field from an ABET accredited program with a coursework concentration in Software Application Development with a minimum GPA of 3.6 AND a Master's degree in Information Technology or related field with a minimum GPA of 3.6.

In addition, the applicant needs a total of at least two years of experience which is delineated as follows: must have included software development with Node.JS and Angular.JS; developing software for retail enterprise; structured query language with enterprise database management systems such as MS SQL server and PostgreSQL; administering software applications on Linux and Windows platforms including tools such as Docker, Drone, and Git. At least one year of this experience should also have involved distributed software architecture including micro service architecture, and at least six months of experience should have included integrating R scripts and MS SQL server with Web applications, developing cross-platform mobile applications using tools such as Ionic, Xamarin, writing scripts and programs in Python, Java, C#, TypeScript, JavaScript and C/C++, and mentoring or training Software Developers.
