The College of Medicine, Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes & Metabolism is looking for a Research Assistant. This position will support the University's mission and commitment to excellence and diversity in our students, faculty, staff and all our activities.

Job Summary:

The focus of the Patel laboratory is to study how cholesterol traffics in the mammalian body. The work encompasses use of animal models, primarily mice, with some work involving rats.

The techniques used span standard molecular biology techniques and we are seeking a lab technician with a strong background in molecular and cellular biology including qPCR, DNA/RNA and protein isolation, western blotting, and cell culture. Working with protein extraction from tissues, such as rafts or use of gradients and ultracentrifugation is helpful. In addition, we purify and quantitate sterols, using GC-mass spec, LC-MS/MS and all training needed to operate instruments is provided. Although working with mice and rats is not a primary responsibility, the ability to do so is seen as an advantage (administration of anesthesia, perform minor procedures, such as drawing blood or tagging animals, harvest tissues etc.).

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor'sdegree in related area of research or equivalent combination education/experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Degree in Biological Sciences, with minimum 2-3 years of experience

This position will be a professional position paid at an hourly rate.
