Department of Internal Medicine

Purpose of Position: To conduct laboratory duties and research for assigned division(s) of the medical center. To perform experiments according to established procedures, to make accurate observations, to record experimental results, and to analyze data.

Responsibilities
  1. Recruitment of research subjects based on established inclusion/exclusion criteria and when appropriate to be able to help with consenting subjects. Be able to interact with collaborative clinical staff to collect blood samples. Following collection of sample, must be able to process samples (e.g. aliquoting, centrifugation, storage) according to established standard operating procedures. Must be able to follow appropriate level of regulatory compliance for task and accurately document consent.
  2. Perform Experiments and Record Data by following established research protocols. Will be required to maintain accurate and detailed records of all laboratory work and experiments. Must be able to analyze data by performing statistical and graphical analysis of data. Must be able to reproduce and evaluate techniques for accuracy. Must be able to apply standard protocols to specific experiments, research, and improve methodology. Assist in training students in laboratory techniques and equipment operation.
  3. Lab Administration including maintaining inventory of laboratory supplies and equipment. Main cell cultures. Operation of standard laboratory equipment including RT-PCR. Use and maintain laboratory equipment appropriately. Respond to errors or problems with equipment. Assist in operations of laboratory including answering pone, maintaining lab supplies, organization, and cleanliness. Provide appropriate safety monitoring checks as assigned (i.e. biosafety).


Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in a profession/field or equivalent level of knowledge


Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior or current research laboratory experience with exposure to laboratory procedures including instrumentation (i.e. RT-PCR, ELISA), cell culture, and data analysis
  • Ability to write scientifically inclusive of protocols, research proposals, and assistance with presentation of results


This position will be a professional position paid at an hourly rate.
