The University of Cincinnati, College of Medicine, Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Nephrology, Kidney CARE Program, is recruiting for a part-time (50% FTE) Research Assistant. This position will support the University's mission and commitment to excellence and diversity in our students, faculty, staff and all our activities.

Job Description: Part time (20 hours/week) Research Assistant to apply professional knowledge, skills, and training to support the objectives of the laboratory by conducting experiments.

Characteristic Duties:
  • Assist the PI with the generation of animal models (rats or mice) for in vivo experiments and handle balance studies in metabolic cages
  • Extract total RNA and prepare the membrane fractions from kidney tissues and cell culture, and will generate the isoform specific probes
  • Coordinate experiments examining the molecular regulation of genes of interest by Northern hybridization, RT-PCR and the expression of corresponding proteins corresponding proteins by immunoblotting and immunofluorescence for both in vivo and in vitro studies
  • Candidate must be able to conduct routine tasks and experimental procedures accurately and following strict procedural methodologies
  • Preparing specimens and samples for different analytic techniques


Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in a related profession/field or equivalent level of knowledge

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Ability to maintain organized and accurate experimental protocols and results
  • Capacity to preserve accurate inventory of supplies and reagents ensuring that the laboratory is well stocked and resourced
  • Exceptional organization skills and attention to detail and accuracy are preferred


This position will be a professional position paid at an hourly rate.
