Psychological Intern - Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS)

Doctoral Psychology Intern

We invite a doctoral psychology intern to join our dynamic and multi-culturally competent staff at the Counseling & Psychological Services (CAPS) within the Division of Student Affairs. We seek a doctoral-level intern in their final of graduation from a clinical or counseling psychology program to join our training program. UC - CAPS is a member of Association of Psychology Postdoctoral Internship Programs (APPIC). The desired start date for this position is August 2019.

Primary Duties : A typical workday includes a combination of intake assessments, individual/group therapy hours, participation in training seminars, and participation in supervision. Interns have the opportunity to facilitate groups and workshops, give outreach presentations to the greater UC community, supervise a practicum student or masters level trainee. Interns will receive training and experience in our short-term, biweekly model of therapy and will learn to integrate multiple facets of support in the care plan for their clients.

Minimum Qualifications :
  • Significant academic coursework and progress toward completion of Doctorate in Clinical or Counseling Psychology from an APA accredited program
  • Skill in the use of personal computer and related software applications
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Ability to use independent judgement and to manage and impart information


Desired Qualifications :
  • Completion of Doctorate in Clinical or Counseling Psychology from an APA accredited program or completion of all academic coursework for the doctoral degree.
  • Completion of all academic coursework for the doctoral degree.
  • Eligible for a year-long internship experience as endorsed by the Director of Clinical training at academic institution.
  • Pre-doctoral internship from an APA accredited internship training site.
  • Experience in college counseling.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to equity and inclusion.
  • Experience providing brief individual therapy to international, historically underrepresented, and/or underserved college population.
  • Experience in a college counseling center.
  • Dissertation scheduled for proposal before internship year.
  • Good interpersonal skills, team oriented, and desire to collaborate in a multidisciplinary setting.
  • The ability to manage the professional demands of a challenging caseload while maintaining good self-care and positive and healthy perspectives.
