Seek candidate with excellent recommendations and publication history. Successful candidate should have strong interest in the microbiome and testing prebiotic carbohydrates for their impact on gut health and microbial community function.

Responsibilities:
  • Conduct anaerobic fermentation experiments to determine the impact of prebiotic carbohydrate on microbial metabolism.
  • Extract DNA from clinical samples for analysis of human genes or the metagenome.
  • Conduct PCR analysis of subject DNA samples to determine polymorphisms in FUT2, FUT3, and other genes as appropriate.
  • Use state of the art informatics to analyze shift in fecal metagenome and its relationship to shift in fecal metabolome.
  • Maintain the laboratory equipment, freezers, order necessary supplies and assure appropriate regulatory compliance for the laboratory.
  • Oversee the work of students or staff in the laboratory as assigned.
  • Be responsible for maintaining regulatory compliance, including standard operating procedures (SOPs) for laboratory methods and procedures.
  • Author and co-author papers for publication in scientific journals.
  • Write a career award grant application with the support and guidance of Dr. Morrow and other UC faculty.
  • Assist with writing other grant submissions.
  • Present work at professional conferences.


Minimum Qualifications: PhD required. Training in microbiology, molecular biology, informatics, and chemistry preferred.
