Under general supervision from a designated administrator, assist in providing comprehensive, continuous, and personalized care to patients in the Department of Trauma and Critical Care Surgery. This position is assigned to the acute care hospital setting at a level one trauma center. Primary responsibilities will be to collaborate with interdisciplinary health care team caring for injured patients on the medical surgical trauma floor managing both their acute and chronic health care needs. The nurse practitioner will demonstrate an advanced level of medical and nursing knowledge, with the ability to evaluate, diagnose, and provide treatment for the complex trauma patients from admission to discharge. Additionally, nurse practitioners must demonstrate clinical and technical competence, sound clinical judgement, professionalism, and compliant documentation in a timely manner.
Responsibilities include:
- Collect developmental history of patient.
- Conduct basic physical and psychosocial assessment of the individual and/or family. Assist physicians and other providers in delivery of care.
- Discriminate between normal conditions and normal and abnormal deviations by specific screening and tests. Refer patients with abnormal findings to physicians.
- Manage common episodic and chronic illnesses and administer medication and treatments as prescribed. Obtain treatment consents as needed.
- Provide counseling and health training.
- Maintain accurate records.
- Participate in research and development projects.
- Order supplies as necessary; stock and maintain rooms.
- Provide direct supervision to exempt and non-exempt staff (i.e., hiring/firing, performance evaluations, disciplinary action, approve time off, etc.).
- Perform related duties based on departmental need.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Current/valid RN license to practice in the state of Ohio with prescriptive authority prior to start.
- A Master's degree in Nursing and graduation from an ANA approved Nurse Practitioner Program.
- BLS, ACLS
- Must be available to work some weekends.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Four (4) years nursing experience.
- Adult -Gero Acute Care focus is preferred.
- ATLS preferred or be obtained within 6 months of hire
