The College of Medicine, Department of Family Medicine, is looking for a Nurse Practitioner. This position will support the University's mission and commitment to excellence and diversity in our students, faculty, staff and all our activities.

Job Summary/Duties : Nurse Practitioner will provide palliative care services for both inpatient and outpatients at University of Cincinnati Medical Center.

Primary Responsibilities :
  • Performs and documents initial evaluation of new consults.
  • Under the supervision of the attending physician, provides subsequent direct patient care, including patient assessment and completion of patient care orders.
  • Completes written medical record documentation, including patient progress notes and hospital discharge summary.
  • Coordinates transfer/discharge planning process and appropriate post-discharge follow-up care.
  • Facilitates communication with internal and external health care providers, as directed by the attending physician.
  • Provides anticipatory guidance and counseling to patients/families.
  • Initiates and coordinates referrals to other health care team members or agencies as needed.
  • Provides education and serves as a resource for nursing staff and health careproviders in area of clinical expertise.
  • Participates in development and implementation of divisional and departmental quality assessment/improvement/research programs and processes.
  • Assists in recruitment of patients for trials.
  • Provides leadership to incorporate research findings into practice.
  • Participates in activities that enhance clinical expertise.
  • Submit charge slips for any services rendered when the physician is not present.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications : Graduation from a Nurse Practitioner program accredited by the appropriate agencies; Certification as a Nurse Practitioner by the appropriate boards. Must be licensed in the State of Ohio. Must have extensive training in the field of geriatrics and palliative medicine and three to five years direct patient experience in end of life care.
