Financial Aid Adviser - Enrollment Management

The Student Financial Aid Office within the Division of Enrollment Management is seeking to fill three Financial Aid Advisor positions using this job posting.

Essential Function: Manages specified portfolio of financial aid marketing, recruitment, and retention programs and services for prospective and current students, participates in outreach activities and facilitates the financial aid process, and exercises professional judgment. Reports to the Associate Director- Enrollment Relations in the Student Financial Aid Office.

Characteristic Duties: The position will have full or shared responsibility for some of the following assignment areas, providing management of tasks and coordination of activities as appropriate:

  • Aid Processing and Follow-Up - Reviews, analyzes, and makes decisions for verification, dependency appeals, special circumstances, budget appeals, and other professional judgment cases. Calculates financial aid eligibility. Processes aid on an individual basis and researches status of records while working with other UC offices and outside agencies participating in the financial aid process; responds to inquiries from various sources (letter, fax, e-mail, Internet, etc.); utilizes query tools to analyze student records and develop proactive approaches.
  • Counseling - Provides individual and group counseling, by phone, email, and on a walk-in basis, to prospective students, current students, and parents regarding financial aid opportunities, application procedures, deadlines, etc. Provides expert and specialized counseling for students utilizing One Stop Service Center and branch campus financial aid units. Provides loan and debt management counseling. Determines eligibility and refers students to other university offices and outside agencies when appropriate. Assists with Scholarship & New Student Financial Aid Center advising functions.
  • Outreach Activities - Represents UC, Enrollment Management, and/or Student Financial Aid at outreach (recruitment and retention) activities such as high school visits, college fairs, community events, etc. Provides group presentations and interventions designed to promote higher education, financial assistance programs, college costs, debt management, aid utilization, and personal budgeting. Plans and develops targeted recruitment and retention activities designed for high school, elementary school, college classroom, student organizations or parent audiences. Provides presentations at admissions events. Coordinates follow-up to the unique needs of prospective students determining college choice.Works in conjunction with other UC offices to provide complemented retention services to students.
  • Academic Progress : Manages Standards of Satisfactory Academic Progress review process ensuring compliance with federal regulations and university policy. Coordinates student-centered appeal process that promotes strengthened academic performance and effective aid utilization. Reviews appeals and determines exceptions for eligibility. Coordinates aid revocation and reinstatement as needed.
  • Marketing Communications : Develops marketing publications (both traditional paper and electronic) that promotes higher education, aid, and financial opportunities. Monitors and coordinates website to ensure accuracy and currency in information, action, and appearance. Designs and develops presentation materials (electronic presentations, handouts, and program modules) for outreach programs for prospective and current students and/or the campus community and general public. Manages office e-mail accounts.
  • Participates in on-going professional development activities. Other duties may include participation in the Student Financial Aid Office (SFAO), Enrollment Management (EM), and Provost Office activities, and work-study student supervision.


Minimum Qualifications : Bachelor's degree with one (1) year of experience; -OR- Associate's degree with three (3) years of experience; -OR- five (5) years of experience. Experience must be in advising in scholarships and financial aid or a related field.

This position will be a professional position paid at an hourly rate.
